'I'm just trying to copy Novak, because he's my idol!' admits Chung on court afterwards. Cue laughs from Laver.

'I just can't believe this,' says Chung, who will face Tennys Sandgren in one of the most unlikely QF lineups ever at the Australian Open.

11.37

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 6-7 CHUNG

That's it! By far the biggest win of 21-year-old Chung's career but he barely celebrates as Djokovic fires a backhand wide, and Chung seals a 7-3 win in the breaker. He is the first Korean to reach a Grand Slam QF and he has taken out the 6-time champ.

Welcome to the big time!

11.35

TIE BREAK

Djokovic 6-7 5-7 6-6 Chung

Chung is milking the Laver crowd now, gesturing for them to make more noise, as he moves 5-3 up in the breaker, courtesy of a winner described as 'crazy, crazy good' by John McEnroe on comms. Djokovic is pushing him to every edge of the court but he gets to a forehand and sends it stinging back past the Serbian.

11.32

TIE BREAK

Djokovic 6-7 5-7 6-6 Chung

Chung very nearly does the full splits on the way to a forehand -- amazing flexibility -- but he sends it wide.

Djokovic is back in this breaker at 3-3. Pulsating stuff.

11.30

The end is nigh?

11.28

TIE-BREAK

Djokovic 6-7 5-7 6-6 Chung

Chung races into a 2-0 lead, courtesy of a one of the best forehands he has hit all match!

11.27

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 6-6 CHUNG

A couple of nervy shots from Chung -- a wild backhand and a far-too-inviting lob -- help Djokovic to clinch a straightforward hold, sealed by an ace. The Serb is actually serving and moving as well as he has all match.

A second breaker it is.

11.23

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 5-6 CHUNG

What a way to win a frenetic game! Chung stretches to fire a superb forehand across court. It lands right on Djokovic's toe and the Serb can't divert it back over the net.

Chung punches the air. He's a game away again.

11.20
11.19

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 5-5 CHUNG

Djokovic is going nowhere quietly! He clinches a hold with some mighty hitting, despite the cutest of backhand returns from Chung mid-game, to level the set.

11.17

Djokovic looked a mixture of furious and besumed during the changeover. He gave everything in that game...but came up short.

The 6-time champion is about to serve to stay in the match.

11.15
11.15

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 4-5 CHUNG

Wow. At 30-30, we have the rally of the match. A successive of great shots finally comes to an end when Chung opens his body and sends a controlled forehand winner into the corner. Djokovic looks incredulous but responds to bring up deuce.

Chung clinches a hold when the Serb fires wide. He'll have to serve to stay in this match.

11.11

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 4-4 CHUNG

Stunning defence from Chung who looks beaten but whacks a forehand winner down the line before earning a BP with an equally ferocious backhand. If he wins it, he's serving for the set.

But a beautiful forehand from Djoko brings up a vital hold. Could he?

11.08

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 3-4 CHUNG

Djokovic looked to have the advantage after some vinatage returning and a solid hold, but Chung seals a big, big hold to move ahead again.

11.05

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 3-3 CHUNG

A solid hold for Djokovic takes it to 3-3 in the third set.

10.57

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-3 CHUNG

Chung breaks! Djokovic fires long wildly to set-up BP and then sends the ball wide to gift the Korean the game.

10.55

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-2 CHUNG

More superb defence from Chung, who keeps repelling Djokovic stingers at 15-40 until the Serb fires a forehand wide. The Korean takes the game to deuce by whacking a forehand winner into space.

10.46

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-3 CHUNG

The beginning of the end? The game goes to deuce after a loose Chung forehand but the Korean earns a first break in the third set, courtesy of two wide backhands from Djokovic.

10.43

10.40

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-2 CHUNG

Chung is full of confidence, wrongfooting Djokovic beautifully before clinching a hold by hammering a short ball across court.

10.40

'A passing of the baton?' says John McEnroe in comms.

But here's Andy Murray providing a bit of perspective...

10.36

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-1 CHUNG

A stroke of luck for Djokovic as he cracks the tape and the ball falls well out of Chung's reach. That gets the crowd going. But the Serb simply falls away, as Chung fires a backhand winner down the line before Djoko finds the net.

Break back and all square in the third.

10.34

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 1-0 CHUNG

Djoko is not done yet, earning a break at the start of the third set as Chung hammers a forehand into the net.

Could the 6-time champ really win from here?

10.29
10.24

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-7 CHUNG

What a way to clinch the second set! Djokovic fires long, handing Chung SP, but the Serb looks determined not to give it away, battering the 21-year-old with a succession of grunting grounstrokes. The Korean keeps responding though, defending remarkably, before Djokovic fires into the net. Cue a huge roar from Laver. He earned that.

10.21

10.13

DJOKOVIC 6-7 5-5 CHUNG

The rollercoaster continues. Despite appearing to have lost momentum, Chung fights back to deuce and he's suddenly two points from a two-set lead. Djokovic responds with two ferocious winners to hold and we're back level!

10.01

DJOKOVIC 6-7 3-4 CHUNG

Game on. Chung pumps a forehand into the net and Djokovic has broken back. Suddenly those injury concerns don't seem to be affecting him...

09.59

DJOKOVIC 6-7 2-4 CHUNG

Write off Djokovic at your peril. It looked like this set was heading for 1-6 but the 30-year-old is back in it, completing a hold with a dipping forehand.

09.54

DJOKOVIC 6-7 1-4 CHUNG

Djokovic plays on...but for how much longer?

09.50
09.50

DJOKOVIC 6-7 1-4 CHUNG

Is Djokovic about to retire? The Serb looks to the heavens in despair as Chung fires a smash past him to set up game point, and Djokovic squanders it with another weary shot. He trudges back to his chair, presumably to comtemplate whether he will play on...

09.48

DJOKOVIC 6-7 1-3 CHUNG

Djokovic earns a foothold in this second set with a punchy display of serving but 21-year-old Chung is in the ascendency and looks full of confidence.

09.46
09.39
09.37

DJOKOVIC 6-7 0-1 CHUNG

During the break, Djokovic had treatment on his feet -- blisters, I think -- but that worrisome elbow also got a rub, which isn't an encouraging sign.

Stil, obviously problems as he thumps a stunning forehand past Chung to earn a third BP. Chung responds with an almost identical shot and he takes the first game of the second set with a brilliant forehand winner down the line.

09.27
09.24

DJOKOVIC 6-7(4) CHUNG

Chung takes control of the tie-break, racing to three set points after some slopping Djokovic hitting. The Serb saves the first with a thumping forehand return -- which is initally called out but challenged -- but Chung wins the next point to clinch the first set against the six-time champ.

What a rollercoaster. Novak will not believe he has lost on a breaker after responding from 4-0.

09.20

TIE BREAK

Djokovic 6-6 Chung

Best rally of the match so far and it really is like watching two Djokovics as the pair fly around the court exchanging ferocious groundstrokes. Djokovic eventually punches a forehand volley into space to level the TB at 3-3.

09.18

TIE BREAK

Djokovic 6-6 Chung

Djokovic moves into a 1-0 lead with an exquisite forehand down the line but a seventh double faults puts Chung 3-2 up...

09.16

DJOKOVIC 6-6 CHUNG

Tie-break it is! Just as the momentum appears to have firmly swung towards the 6-time champ, Chung responds, firing in a volley at the second attempt to move 30-15 up before clinching the game.

09.13
09.10

DJOKOVIC 6-5 CHUNG

Chung unexpectedly earns a break point at 30-40 but it's vintage Djokovic as he takes the next three points. Chung screams in frustration as he crashes a forehand into the net and Djokovic responds with his own roar of 'Come onnnnn,' as he clinches the game with a firm forehand to move ahead for the first time.

09.05

DJOKOVIC 5-5 CHUNG

A couple of nervy unforced errors leave Chung 0-30 down and Djokovic sensing blood. Chung is a little unlucky to see a forehand clip the net and drop just the wrong side but it gives Djokovic two break-back points. Chung fires another forehand long and we're level.

The young Korean is crumbling rapidly on Laver and he needs to regroup.

08.59

DJOKOVIC 4-5 CHUNG

Rapid love hold from Djokovic, which leaves the pressure on Chung, who is serving for the first set.

08.57

DJOKOVIC 3-5 CHUNG

Well played Chung! He holds to move to within a game of the opening set with a precise forehand volley at 40-30.

08.51

DJOKOVIC 3-4 CHUNG

A sixth DF (already!) allows Chung back into the game but Djokovic looks more aggressive and more assertive on the way to a third straight game, clinched when Chung fires a backhand long. The Serb has had to work hard but Chung's lead is just a single break now.

08.43

DJOKOVIC 2-4 CHUNG

First sign of pressure from Chung, who double faults loosely at 0-30 to hand Djokovic three BPs. But three more uncharacteristic unforced errors allow Chung back into the game. Novak squanders another opportunity when he earns a fourth BP.

But the Korean scoops a forehand long, leading to a fifth BP, and Dojokovi takes it!

This set is far from over.

08.34

DJOKOVIC 1-4 CHUNG

A first hold at the fourth attempt for Djovokic, who has finally got to grips with his own serve. He catches the line in the top corner to race into a 40-0 lead and holds on from there. He is on the board!

08.30

DJOKOVIC 0-4 CHUNG

It continues... Djokovic tries to go on the offensive but finds Chung thwacking heavyweight forehands all over the court, as he clinches a fourth straight game. The Serb does look himself out there.

08.29
08.27

DJOKOVIC 0-3 CHUNG

Four straight double faults leaves Djokovic 0-30 down -- something clearly isn't right with that new mpotion -- and there's no way back from there as Chung powers a forehand down the line to seal a second break. What a start from the 21-year-old.

08.22

DJOKOVIC 0-2 CHUNG

Superb! Chung consolidates the break with a fine cross-court backhand after a sloppy sliced approach from Djokovic.

A reminder that the Serb withdrew from Doha with an elbow injury before coming here and he has said he's still not '100% fit'. He's started slowly here but then he did in the last round against Gael Monfils, before eventually getting the job done.

08.19

DJOKOVIC 0-1 CHUNG

Perfect start for Chung, who earns an early break after back-to-back double faults from Djokovic. That'll help settle any nerves.

08.10

Here we go...

It's the new Novak Djokovic against, er, the real Novak Djokovic.

The six-time champ takes on the youngest man left in the draw, Hyeon Chung, on Laver.
