In accordance with the predicted forecast, a decrease in swell size at the Itauna Beach point break forced officials to call a lay day at the Quiksilver Saquarema Prime.

Quality waves in the waist-to-chest high range were breaking in both directions, but the long interval in between sets led organisers to call off competition for the day.

A new call has been set for the eagerly-anticipated round of 16 which sees a man-to-man elimination.

The finals are set for Sunday, where $40,000 in prize money will be won and 6,500 ASP World Ranking points distributed amongst the competitors.

Round of 16 match-ups:

Heat 1: Hizunome Bettero (BRA) vs Sebastien Zietz (HAW)

Heat 2: Kai Otton (AUS) vs Perth Standlick (AUS)

Heat 3: Kolohe Andino (USA) vs Jean da Silva (BRA)

Heat 4: Alex Ribeiro (BRA) vs Romain Cloitre (FRA)
