Mastnak makes the perfect start to Snowboard World Cup
Tim Mastnak claimed top spot in the parallel giant slalom at the opening Snowboard Alpine World Cup event of the season in Carezza.
The Slovenian beat out Austria's double Winter Olympic medallist Benjamin Karl in the final race, with Karl's compatriot Sebastian Kislinger finishing third.
Mastnak qualified fourth fastest with a time of 1:15.70, 0.48s slower than Swiss boarder Nevin Galmarini.
But last year's parallel World Cup champion couldn't make the most of his initial advantage when the knockouts came around as he finished down in ninth.
The result sees Mastnak set the early pace in the World Cup standings, with the win awarding him 1000 points towards his tally, with Karl and Kislinger claiming 800 and 600 respectively.
