Fischnaller claims snowboard victory in front of home crowd
King of Cortina Roland Fischnaller rolled back the years with a fifth podium in five attempts in front of his home fans, beating Nevin Galmarini to parallel GS gold in Italy.
The 38-year-old snowboarder dominated the competition at Cortina D'Ampezzo to top the podium as Switzerland's Galmarini took silver.
Galmarini won the Olympic parallel giant slalom at PyeongChang 2018 but finished 0.17s behind the home rider, who won the parallel slalom world title in 2015.
Austria's Benjamin Karl won the small final to take bronze, edging Andreas Prommegger of Austria.
Italy's Aaron March finished fifth, ahead of Russia's Dmitry Sarsembaev in sixth.
Fischnaller spoke of severe back pain after his seventh place on Thursday in Carezza but put those concerns to the side to claim a first victory of the season and a 15th World Cup win of his career.
