Ronnie O'Sullivan moved into the semi-finals of the Players Tour Championship finals on Wednesday with a 9-3 victory over Stuart Bingham.

O'Sullivan, who can become the new world number one if he wins the tournament, led 6-2 from the opening session and quickly added another frame on the board with an electric start to the session.

His progress was halted somewhat by a long and drawn-out safety battle, but he eventually moved one frame away from victory.

Former world champion Bingham was able to prevent a session sweep as he got on the board but O'Sullivan quickly wrapped up victory.

He will face Masters winner Judd Trump in the next round after he fought back from three frames down to beat world champion Mark Williams 9-8 earlier in the day..

Williams pushed ahead 7-5 in the first mini-session of the day after they resumed at 4-4, and he then moved to one frame from victory as Trump struggled to find any sort of rhythm.

However, he then responded in excellent fashion, winning three frames on the bounce to force a decider.

In the other side of the draw, Mark Allen survived a fightback from Kyren Wilson to triumph 9-7 and set up a semi-final clash with 2010 world champion Neil Robertson.

Allen led 6-2 after the first session and he opened up in imperious form with a century break to move to 7-2.

However Wilson dug in and won three frames in a row to get to 7-5 and he eventually fought back to 8-7 behind.

Any hopes of a similar comeback to Tump were dashed however when Allen got in amongst the balls and knocked in a break of 71 to reach the final four.
