Snooker news - Mark Williams through in German Masters after Zhou Yuelong test
Mark Williams responded well to a Zhou Yuelong fightback to progress to the second round of the German Masters on Wednesday and was joined in the next stage by Judd Trump in the headline match of the evening session.
The Welshman showed his class with a magnificent break of 127 in the third frame and took a 3-1 lead in the best of nine encounter.
But Chinese talent Yuelong made it a contest with breaks of 51 and 85 to bring the score back to 4-3.
Williams sealed it with a break of 76 in the eighth stanza and followed up his victory with a trip to the Eurosport studio where he spoke to Jimmy White, Andy Goldstein and Neil Foulds about his victory and his trademark one-handed shot.
Elsewhere in the afternoon session, Joe Perry beat Sam Baird 5-4, while Yan Bingtao progressed at the expense of Matthew Stevens.
Judd Trump's match with Li Hang was the headline draw of the evening session, but Trump made short work of it, running out a 5-2 winner despite Hang's impressive 105 break late on.
Stephen Maguire made even shorter work of Michael Georgiou, winning 5-1, while Robert Milkins came through an epic against Barry Hawkins, edging the final frame decider to complete a comeback from 3-1 down.
