Phil Burgess believes England's never-say-die attitude is shining through this season as they sit second in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

England secured their second tournament victory of the season last weekend by beating South Africa 19-7 in the final of the Vancouver Sevens.

They also registered their largest ever win over Olympic gold medallists Fiji, 40-7, in the semi-finals and overcame New Zealand 14-12 in the quarter-finals.

Only South Africa sit above them in the series standings, 23 points ahead with four legs remaining, and Burgess admits confidence is high in the camp.

"That is what we want, the consistency of going out there and delivering a performance," he said.

"Sometimes the results won't happen – a bounce of the ball here or there – but that performance, going out there and sharing that same passion and determination each time will generally put us in a good position.

"We talk about work-rate, passion, desire and commitment, as well as the ability to think clearly under pressure.

"This never give up attitude is something that summarises this England team. It's a testament to the character of the team."
