What an incredible achievement! Croatia are into their first ever World Cup final as a nation. England just couldn't see the game out. They had chances in the first half, Kane in particular missed a sitter, but you have to admire the way Croatia wrestled back control over the course of the match.

FULL TIME: Croatia 2-1 England. CROATIA ARE INTO THE WORLD CUP FINAL!
Croatia are on the brink of reaching their first ever World Cup. What a performance this has been from them. They started slowly, but great as the game progressed. They deserve their win.
Is there one last chance left in this match for England? They haven't really created much since that Stones header in the first half of extra time. Croatia look rather comfortable.
Four minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
PERISIC WAS FREE! Kramaric burst through the England defence, who were left short-handed. Perisic was completely free at the back post, but he takes the shot on himself. Side netting.
- OffLuka ModricCroatia
- OnMilan BadeljCroatia
Now Modric will be coming off. Croatia are using these changes to very good effect, draining time.
TRIPPIER OFF! England are going to have to play these final few minutes without Trippier. It looks like his groin has gone and he is hobbling towards the England dugout.
- OffMario MandžukicCroatia
- OnVedran CorlukaCroatia
Mandzukic is going to come off here and he will be replaced by Corluka. Remember him?
There's five minutes left in this match for England to find a much-needed equaliser. When will they get this sort of opportunity again? They have to give it everything in the dying moments here.
The Croatians are upset that England didn't put the ball out when they had it. Mandzukic had cramp and was down on the ground. England were well within their rights to play on.
- OffKyle WalkerEngland
- OnJamie VardyEngland
One last throw of the dice from Southgate and it's Vardy who comes on.
Heartache for England. They looked in control of this game for 45 minutes, but they have allowed this to slip. Of course, Croatia also deserve credit for the way they have played.
- GoalMario MandžukicCroatia
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Croatia 2 (109 mins - Mario Mandzukic) England 1. Maaaaaaandzukic! The Croatian striker drifted in behind the England defence, who weren't aware of his presence, and he spun to take the shot on the swivel, firing a low finish past Pickford. Advantage Croatia.
BROZOVIC WAS UNMARKED! England fell asleep there. Croatia played the shot corner kick into the box, but Brozovic couldn't keep his shot down and his effort flashes over.
England looked weary towards the end of that first period of extra time. They started well, but Croatia had that chance through Mandzukic right at the end. What a save that was.
- E.T 2nd Half
The second half of extra time is under! It's still 1-1 between these two sides.
- End of E.T 1st Half
HALF TIME IN ET: Croatia 1-1 England
HUGE, HUGE PICKFORD SAVE! What a save from Pickford! The pass across the face of goal for Mandzukic was perfect, but the England goalkeeper came off his line to make the intervention! Wow!
Two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of this half of extra time.
England have certainly picked up their game again in this first period of extra time. They have been the team on top, they are dictating things again through the centre. Much better.
Great recovery from Modric. The Croatian midfielder actually gave the ball away right on the edge of the box, but just as it looked like Rashford would stride past him into space, he makes a crucial challenge.
- OffAnte RebicCroatia
- OnAndrej KramaricCroatia
Here comes Kramaric. He replaces Rebic for the final 20 minutes or so.
OFF THE LINE! So close to a second England goal! Trippier finds Stones inside the box with the corner kick, but the centre back's header is headed off the line by Vrsaljko! Agonising!
- OffJordan HendersonEngland
- OnEric DierEngland
Another change for England. Dier comes on to replace Henderson. Fresh legs in the centre.
England think that they have won a corner kick off a Maguire header, but the referee has actually given the foul to Croatia. Not entirely sure what for. There was some grappling.
- Yellow cardAnte RebicCroatia
A yellow card for Rebic. He brought down Rose cynically as the left back surged forward.
- OffIvan StrinicCroatia
- OnJosip PivaricCroatia
Indeed, here's the change and Pivaric comes on for the injured Strinic.
STRINIC INJURED! It looks like the Croatia full back's evening is over. He has just hit the ground and Croatia are now getting ready to make a change. Strinic is hobbling off.
England allowed the game to slip away from them in the second half. They lost their composure in the centre of the pitch. They must do better in keeping the ball in extra time.
We thought that Croatia might get tired over the course of the game, but it was actually England who seemed to run out of gas. No surprise that Rose came on for Young.
- OffAshley YoungEngland
- OnDanny RoseEngland
Southgate has made a switch at the start of the extra time period and it's Rose who comes on for Young. A straight swap.
- End of 2nd Half
Extra time is under way in Moscow! It's 1-1 between Croatia and England.
- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Croatia 1-1 England. WE'RE GOING INTO EXTRA TIME!
KANE HEADER! Ah the England number nine and captain should have done better with that. Trippier found Kane with the cross into the box, but he directed his header down into the ground and wide.
ENGLAND FREEKICK! Rakitic takes down Rashford and England have a freekick in a very dangerous position on the right side. Can they make the most of this opportunity?
Just three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Time running out here. Both sides are desperate for a second goal which would surely be the winner, but at present it's Croatia who look the more measured side. They're on top.
That was unlucky for Lingard. His run through the middle was a good one, but he just couldn't collect the pass from Kane. It was played slightly behind him. A difficult one, for sure.
It's not that England aren't playing their usual passing game, it's that they now look nervous when they try to do so. Croatia are well on top. They look most likely to find this winning goal.
GOAL WAS GAPING! England are living so dangerously now. The cross into the England box was a looping one, Pickford's punch wasn't good, but Perisic couldn't lob it over the keeper, who was off his line.
MANDZUKIC DRAWS THE SAVE! Fantastic pass from Brozovic to get in behind the striker. Mandzukic turns and takes the shot on the swivel, but Pickford makes the solid save.
This is where heroes are forged. There are eight minutes left to play and both Croatia and England are looking for a goal that would send them to the final of the World Cup. How's your nerve?
LET OFF! Wow, that was a close call for England. Walker and Trippier get themselves into a mix up, the ball is played back to Pickford at pace and under pressure he makes a rushed clearance.
Taking into account that Croatia have played two periods of extra time in the knockout rounds of this World Cup, their energy in this second half has been quite magnificent.
LINGARD ACROSS THE FACE! The England number seven was played in down the right channel, but from a tight angle he could only send his shot wide of the far post. Good effort.
Can England find a way back into this game? They have fallen out of it since the Croatia goal. Dalic and his players are really going for the win here. England hanging on for dear life.
Sterling was excellent, probably England's best player, in the first half, but he had faded since the start of the second half. Rashford will give England some threat on the counter.
- OffRaheem SterlingEngland
- OnMarcus RashfordEngland
Southgate makes his first change of the night and it's Rashford who comes on for Sterling.
Make no mistake, England are rocking here. Croatia are all over them. Southgate needs to impart some wisdom to his players here. They need to be calm. They need to regroup.
OFF THE POST! Croatia within inches of taking the lead. Perisic shifted the ball on to his left foot and smashed a shot across Pickford. But while it beat goalkeeper, it didn't beat the post!
Now it's real. Croatia have picked things up since the start of the second half and now they have the goal that their pressure probably warranted. They have played so many crosses into the box.
- GoalIvan PerišicCroatia
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Croatia 1 (69 mins - Ivan Perisic) England 1. An equaliser! Croatia have levelled things up! Perisic got in there ahead of Walker, who was trying to make the clearance with a header, and the Inter winger flicks home the finish with the outside of his foot! Massive, massive goal.
WALKER DOWN! The England full back turned central defender is receiving some treatment at the moment, but doesn't look to be serious. He took a blow by making that block.
PERISIC! BIG BLOCK! England looked to be in trouble there. Modric's cross was only headed to the edge of the box, where Perisic controlled it. Walker threw himself in front of the shot, though!
England are finding it more difficult to keep hold of the ball in the centre of the pitch. They are still dangerous on the counter attack, but can they see this out purely in that way?
STERLING WAS IN BEHIND! That was an opportunity for Sterling to either get a shot away or cross into the middle. In the end, he does neither. Shouts for a spot kick were half-hearted.
RAKITIC SHOOTS OVER! That was a half chance for the Barcelona midfielder, but he leans over the ball and shoots over the bar. Rakitic has been somewhat disappointing so far.
This has been much better from Croatia in this second half. They are starting to dictate things, they are seeing much more of the ball and pushing England back into their own half.
England are being tested now. Croatia are getting crosses into the box, putting the Englisg defence under pressure. For the moment, though, the Three Lions are dealing with it.
WHAT A CROSS! That was a wonderful ball by Trippier. Kane was making the run to the near post, but some exceptional defending from Lovren prevented him from getting on the end of it.
LINGARD SHOT DEFLECTED! Good effort by the England number seven. He took aim from about 20 yards out. It was on target, but it took a deflection and spun up over the bar.
- Yellow cardKyle WalkerEngland
Walker is shown a yellow card. Of course, yellow cards are scrubbed after the quarter finals.
CORRECTION: It was actually Mandzukic who was shown a yellow card at the start of the first half. Not sure what for because it was Rebic who caught Walker with an arm.
That looked to be a clear foul on Kane. The England number nine was absolutely flattened there by Vrsaljko, but the referee waved away the claims. That was a strange call.
England have been first to every ball so far. Croatia might not be showing signs of physical fatigue, but are they suffering from mental fatigue? They don't have many ideas.
When will we see Kovacic come off the bench for Croatia? The Real Madrid midfielder could be what they need to take a grip of the game and turn things around in this second half.
Will England continue to play the open game they did in the first half? They probably should have scored more than once in the opening 45 minutes. Will they tighten up in the second half?
- Yellow cardMario MandžukicCroatia
Rebic picks up the first yellow card of the match for a flailing arm into the face of Walker.
If you missed it first time around...
No changes made by either side at the half time break. England are 45 minutes away from their first World Cup final since 1966. Croatia have 45 minutes to save their World Cup dream.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! England have a 1-0 lead over Croatia after the opening 45 minutes.
What did you make of the first half in Moscow? Should England be more than one goal ahead? Is there any way back for Croatia? Do they need to make changes? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Croatia 0-1 England. Trippier's freekick is the difference between the two sides at the break and England deserve their lead. They have been the far better side on the whole.
One minute of stoppage time to be played at the end of the first half.
WILD! And that sort of sums up how difficult Croatia have found it to create chances. Vrsaljko takes the shot from a foolish position about 30 yards out on the right and he lashes it well over the bar.
The referee has kept his cards in his pocket in this first half, which is quite something when you consider some of the tackles that have gone in. There probably should have been two of three.
Croatia are enjoying a spell of possession at the moment, but they aren't really going anywhere with it. England are sat deep and look quite happy and comfortable doing so.
England are playing with so much composure at the back. They don't ever panic. They are quite happy to pass it around the opposition as they press high when they have the ball.
Sterlng has been exceptional for England in this first half. He has been crucial to the way they have played. He has been an outlet on the shoulder of the last Croatian defender.
BIG LINGARD CHANCE! The space opened up for Lingard on the edge of the box. Kane threaded out to Alli, who found Lingard in the centre, but he couldn't wrap his foot around the shot.
YOUNG JUST GOT THERE! That was crucial. The pass across the England penalty box was a good one, but Young got a toe to the ball just as Rebic was winding up the shot at the back post.
One wonders if England might regret not making more of this pressure in this first half. They were almost made to pay for not taking their chances in the round of 16 game against Colombia.
REBIC TESTS PICKFORD! That was a chance for Croatia, probably their best of the game. Stones' headed clearance fell to him on the edge of the box, but his shot was straight at Pickford.
KANE DOUBLE SITTER! How has that not ended up in the back of the net. Kane was played clean through by Lingard, shot was saved and then from a yard out, from a very tight angle, he hits the post!
This has been a very open encounter so far, which isn't what we expected. It's certainly not in the interest of Croatia to play in this manner. England are cutting them open at will.
CORRECTION: Lovren wasn't booked for his challenge on Kane a few moments ago. The referee looked to get the cards out of his pocket, but nothing was ever shown to him.
Young whips a freekick into the area from a deep position on the left side, but Subasic does well to come off his line and make the clearing punch under pressure from about five players.
For the first time in the match, the tempo has calmed down a little bit. Croatia are taking the chance to knock the ball around the middle, but England are so dangerous on the break.
Sterling looks like he could get in behind the Croatian defence at will. Croatia are playing a pretty high line and that is giving the Manchester City winger all kinds of space to gallop into.
KANE IS OFFSIDE! A dreadful clearance from Subasic presents the ball to England high up the pitch. Sterling could have gone along, he threads Kane instead who shoots wide. The flag was up, though.
Lovren sees the first yellow card of the match for bodychecking Kane as England flew out on the counter.
Here we go. Croatia are starting to crank up the pressure. Questions are being asked of the England defence. They are sitting deep as cross after cross come into the penalty box.
PERISIC STRIKE! For the first time in the match, Croatia get a sight of goal. It was Perisic who lined up the shot from 20 yards, but his effort flashes past the near post. Not far away. Perisic wants the corner.
One question against this Croatia side is their fitness. How much of a toll did the extra time periods in the wins over Denmark and Russia take out of them? They haven't offered much yet.
Of course, the likes of Modric and Rakitic will get a grip of things at some point and England need to be prepared for that. This is a time for calm heads, even as they have the lead.
This has been an excellent start by England. Not only do they have the lead, but they are in complete control. We thought Croatia would dictate things, but that hasn't been the case.
MAGUIRE.... WIDE! Again, the Leicester City centre back gets on the end of the corner kick delivery. This time he guides his header across the goal and wide of the far post.
It's England who are pressing for a second goal. Croatia have yet to really get going. Southgate's side are the ones on top and you wouldn't bet against them scoring a second.
MAGUIRE HEADER! Young drives a corner kick from the left side into the penalty box, with Maguire getting on the end of it. However, he crashes his header over the bar. The freekick was given anyway.
England look so lively whenever they win the ball in the centre of the pitch. They have players like Alli, Lingard and Sterling as willing runners in behind. So much movement.
This is perfect for England now. They can now sit back and then hit out on the counter attack where they can cause Croatia some real problems. What a start for the Three Lions.
Just for a moment, it looked like Young might be in a spot of bother. He covering the cross at the back post under pressure from Vrsaljko. He just about gets the clearance away.
Here's a stat for you - England have now scored more goals at this World Cup than any other England side at any other previous World Cup. They have 12. The previous record was 11.
England couldn't have asked for a better start. Neither side had really taken a grip of the contest, but Trippier has given them the lead early on. It was a wonderful freekick from the wing back.
- GoalKieran TrippierEngland
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Croatia 0 England 1 (5 mins - Kiern Trippier). A dream start for England! Incredible! They have the lead within five minutes. It's Trippier! His first ever England goal. He finds the top corner of the Croatia net with a lovely freekick effort! Subasic couldn't get there!
Alli gets brought down about 20 yards out from the Croatia goal by Modric and this will be a chance for England. Who will take it? Trippier and Young are standing over it right now.
This is one of those sporting events where two countries have been brought to a standstill. Of course, there has been a lot of focus on England, but this is also a huge deal for the hugely passionate Croatia.
An early lecture for Lingard from the referee. The Manchester United attacker was quite late with an early tackle on Rakitic and so the man in the middle is having a quick word.
The atmosphere in Samara for the quarter final between Sweden and England felt strangely subdued, but tonight feels like more of an atmosphere befitting of the occasion.
- 1st Half
Here we go. The match is under way in Moscow. It's Croatia against England in the semi finals of the World Cup.
So this is it. England have waited 28 years to get this far in a World Cup, Croatia 20 years. This is a huge, huge match for both countries. A golden opportunity. Who will take it?
A word from the gaffer...
This is only England's third World Cup semi final, at least when it comes to the men. They made it this far in 1990, when they lost on penalties to West Germany. And of course in 1966 when they beat Portugal.
One thing to note for this game is that all yellow cards have been scrubbed. So there won't be a repeat of Gazza's tears tonight. The only way you can get suspended for the final is by getting sent off.
Croatia come into this game on the back of two penalty shootout wins over Denmark and Russia. However, they won all three group stage games. They are a force to be reckoned with.
England have done well to get this stage of the tournament, despite the draw falling in their favour. Croatia will present a test the likes of which they have yet to face, though.
For Croatia, the inclusion of Vrsaljko has come as something of a surprise. The Atleti right back is carrying an injury, but he has made the starting lineup for his country. Kramaric is on the bench.
So this is it. The team news for England is that they are once again unchanged. They have picked the same team for the past two knockout games. Alli is fit. There were concerns over him.
