The referee blows for full time. That's four wins in five for France, but they slogged their way through it. Luxembourg played well, with organisation and a willingness to attack, but this was no classic.
Corner on the right for France. Griezmann lines it up, hoofs it to the backk post, and it's headed out for a corner on the left. Nothing from it.
There will be four minutes of added time, at least.
France are playing the ball around defence, and Jallet aims a ball forward that is to nobody in a white shirt.
Both sides appear to have come to an agreement to just let the game slide for the last few minutes.
- OffBlaise MatuidiFrance
- OnAdrien RabiotFrance
Rabiot strolls on, with his hair, to replace Matuidi.
- OffDaniel Da MotaLuxembourg
- OnGerson RodriguesLuxembourg
Rodrigues is on for Luxembourg. Just over 10 minutes left now.
- OffDimitri PayetFrance
- OnKylian MbappéFrance
Mbappe for Payet.
- GoalOlivier GiroudFrance
GOAL! Luxembourg 1-3 France. Giroud scores - Kante fires out a pass to Mendy on the left, and Giroud meets his header to send the 'keeper the wrong way, to seal victory.
France are struggling. They're missing Evra and Cantona.
France have, let's be honest, been cack so far today. They've played slowly and have committed little in attack against a limited side.
First Matuidi, then Jallet, have a long range shot which doesnt do anything meaningful. Then again, do any of us?
Payet's free kick sails over the bar. It's been Marseille Payet today, not 15/16 West Ham Payet. Griezmann is released into the box by Dembele, but the 'keeper comes out to block the shot, and collect a moment later.
Martins goes through the back of Giroud about 35 yards out, and France have a free kick.
- OffMario MutschLuxembourg
- OnFlorian BohnertLuxembourg
Bohnert is on for Luxembourg in place of Mutsch, and Sidibe - on a stretcher - is placed by Jallet.
Jallet is warming up and will be replacing Sidibe in a few seconds.
Sidibe is down, clutching his ribs on the edge of the box after not really doing much on the right wing. He's getting treatment.
Sidibe goes into the box on the right, anticipating a foul, but as he goes down he lays it off to Dembele, who can't wriggle free to do anything dangerous.
Philipps, I think, bashes into Payet to let Griezmann float in a cross from relatively deep. Umtiti strains towards it, but the ball drifts out of play.
It's Koscielny's turn now. Payet whips in a cross to the back post, and Koscielny completely misses the ball when it was easier to score.
Malget blocks off Dembele on the right wing and concedes a free kick.
Da Mota races in at the back post to a low cross, bouncing at an akward height, but he swishes a shin at the ball and misses.
Mendy loops in a cross on the left wing, but Luxembourg get it away.
Lloris catches a header into the air from Da Mota's long throw from the left wing.
- 2nd Half
We go again.
- End of 1st Half
That's half time. See you in 15 minutes.
There will be three more minutes of this half, give or take. A free kick from the right by Payet is fired over the bar.
- Yellow cardChris PhilippsLuxembourg
Philipps, now booked and suspended, goes straight through Dembele as he sprints down the right towards the touchline.
- Yellow cardAurélien JoachimLuxembourg
Joachim is booked for an earlier foul on Dembele, and that rules him out of their next match, against Holland.
Malget has the chance to shoot from inside the box, but he scuffs his chance under his foot, what a waste. At the other end, Matuidi sends a shot against the foot of the post with a shot from 25 yards out.
Da Mota hurls a long throw torwards the near post, and Lloris heads it out for another attempt. Da Mota gets a cross this time, but it's overhit.
Another Luxembourg corner. This time France manages not to take a dump with its clothes on.
- Goal by penaltyAntoine GriezmannFrance
GOAL! Luxembourg 1-2 France. Griezmann scores - Griezmann powers a shot that Schon gets a hand to, diving to his left, but can't keep out of the net.
- Yellow cardDaniel Da MotaLuxembourg
PENALTY! Sidibe gets past Da Mota in the box on the right, and Da Mota clips his heels from behind. He's booked.
Giroud is back on the pitch, and he fouls Philipps as he bursts past him on the left wing. He might have been booked, but gets away with it.
That's the first goal that Luxembourg have scored against France in 39 years.
- Goal by penaltyAurélien JoachimLuxembourg
GOAL! Luxembourg 1-1 France. Joachim scores - Joachim strides up calmly, sending Lloris one way and rolls the ball into the other side.
Giroud injured himself in the same moment as he stretched to block the shot which never came from Da Mota.
- Yellow cardBlaise MatuidiFrance
PENALTY! Matuidi trips Da Mota, pulling him back in the box after a corner is put back into the box.
Luxembourg seem pretty comfortable on the ball. As I type that, they send a crossfield ball straight out of play.
- GoalOlivier GiroudFrance
GOAL! Luxembourg 0-1 France. Giroud scores - Sidibe gets down the right wing after Griezmann flicks the ball into his path. He pulls it back and gives Giroud an almost empty net to clip his finish toward.
Mendy fires in a cross on the overlap, but Mustch blocks the effort and concedes a corner. It's swung in Umtiti fires a header over.
Payet takes a tumble on the edge of the box, and the ref doesn't buy it.
Kante reaches the cross after it was cleared, and his looping header is caught easily. It was probably going wide.
Payet brings down a bouncing bal on the edge of the box on the left, and he flicks the ball inside before being tripped. Free kick.
A cross is collected by Matuidi on the left but he's closed down, and Joachim blocks a pass with his face to concede a throw. This is dire stuff so far.
Goal kick for Luxembourg, so let's hope there's no hamstring-twang.
- OffAnthony MorisLuxembourg
- OnRalph SchonLuxembourg
Schon on for Moris.
Matuidi tries to engineer an attack on the left wing, but his pass is blocked and it's out for a throw. Moris, the 'keeper for the home side, is down with a leg injury of some kind and appears set to be subbed.
Luxembourg are doing OK at the moment. They just need to do this five more times and bang one in at the other end, and they're laughing.
Griezmann sends a free kick from 25 yards out curling over the wall, but it drifts just over the crossbar.
Dembele is tripped on the right wing to win a free kick. Philipps was the defender to kick out. Free kick 25-30 yards out, to the right of centre.
France are still in control, but with Luxembourg fit and organised, there's only so much they can do at this stage.
France win a corner but can't do anything with it.
I recognise some people fall prey to the idea of patriotism, but for clever people who work out it's all tish and fipsy, what is the point of playing for Luxembourg? It can't be fun, just scrambling the ball away every three seconds. Payet curls in a cross from a free kick to the back post, and Giroud glances a header to the bottom corner. It's saved.
Mendy sends in a cross which it's headed away, and Luxembourg hoof it clear.
Da Mota with a throw high up the pitch on the left, but France quickly win it back.
Luxembourg have France on the ropes. Shot after shot, save after save. No, wait, that's a lie. France are in total control and the goal is a matter of time for them.
- 1st Half
The match gets underway.
Predictably, Luxembourg are bottom. But! But! They have a point. They drew 1-1 away to Belarus in October, with Joachim getting the goal. Beware, Laurent.
France are currently in second place, with three wins from four.
France are actually in a very tough qualification group. They have the Netherlands and Sweden in the group as well, and the rest of the group is made up by Luxembourg, Bulgaria and Belarus. That's more awkward than you'd like.
Luxembourgish is a Germanic language spoken by about 400,000 people in Luxembourg (Lëtzebuerg), France (Frankräich), Belgium (Belsch) and Germany (Däitschland). There are also a few Luxembourgish speakers in the USA.
But now, the problems. Olivier Giroud, a serial misser, starts up front for France. Laurent Koscielny is an underrated liability in defence. Is that a problem? No, they're playing Luxembourg.
There's a debut for Mendy on the left side of defence for France. France have never really replaced the Winston Churchill of French football, Patrice Evra, and they need to do so as he finally approaches not being quite as world class as he has been for the past 20 years.
