Caracciolo turns and shoots well wide, and the final whistle goes. Full time at the Luigi Ferraris, it ends 1-0 to Inter Milan. Inter go up to joint sixth in Serie A on 20 points, after their fourth win in five games.

The ball is being hoofed up towards Caracciolo, but as yet it is coming to nothing.

Inter break and Alvarez slides in Pazzini, but Frey saves as he falls. The game has come alive in added-on time.

Great double chance for Genoa. Rossi fly-kicks but Nagatomo heads the ball off the line. Then Veloso's follow-up shot is tipped over by Cesar.

Five minutes of added time.

Frey kicks the ball out for a throw, as he is closed down by Pazzini.

Frey fields Alvarez's overhit reverse pass to Forlan.

Alvarez cuts inside Moretti, but Rossi comes across to charge down his left-footed shot.

Play resumes, and Pratto's cross from the right is behind Caracciolo. Genoa need to be more incisive in the final third.

Something going on on the touchline. Medics have appeared, with maybe one of the Inter substitutes in trouble. He is being carried across the pitch but he is covered by a blanket, so I am not sure who it is.

Forlan comes on for Milito, for his first game from injury since October 11.

Lucio heads clear Veloso's corner from the right.

Veloso's free-kick into the Inter box is easily cleared. But the ball dropped to Rossi, who shoots over after being set up by Caracciolo's lay-off from Granqvist's cross from the left.

Alvarez hits the post from 30 yards! Pazzini made the run but drifted offside, so the Argentinian just hit it. Frey may have got a fingertip onto the ball.

Genoa attacking now, but it looks ponderous and the Inter defence look untroubled.

Andrea Caracciolo replaces Merkel for Genoa.

Dainelli makes a good tackle to deny Milito on the left-hand edge of the box.

Pratto gets a yellow card for kicking the ball away after being ruled offside as he ran on to Merkel's pass. You can see why the Argentinian was so unhappy. He seemed to run from his own half onto the ball.

Zanetti gets the ball in the Genoa box, but Rossi makes a good challenge.

Moretti is very casual as he allows Pazzini to cross from the right, and Milito is inches away from turning the ball home.

Frey denies Milito with his feet, after the Argentinian was found down the right-hand edge of the box by Pazzini.

Inter boss Claudio Ranieri replaces Poli with Joel Obi.

Nagatomo opens the scoring for Inter with a header at the far post! Alvarez once again cuts on to his left foot as he received the ball on the right from Cambiasso, and the Japan defender gets the wrong side of Mesto to head home the floated cross.

Alvarez runs down the right, but is stopped by the Genoa defence. He is very one-footed!

The camera picks out the injured Palacio in the stands. How Genoa could do with his sharpness up front.

Pazzini falls to the ground under a Mesto tackle. It was a fair challenge, but he stays on the floor for at least a minute.

Alvarez gets a yellow card for pulling back Moretti, but the Genoa player made a huge meal of that.

Constant off to be replaced by Bosko Jankovic.

Pazzini spectacularly shoulder charges Kaladze as he chased the ball. Referee rightly deems it a foul.

Alvarez's free-kick from the right fails to clear the first man. A chance wasted.

Kaladze gets the first yellow card of the game for going through the back of Milito. The last two games that the Georgian has got a yellow, he has gone on to get a red!

Goal ruled out. Granqvist heads gome Veloso's free-kick, but the referee says that he was climbing over Lucio. The linesman made the call, so maybe it was for offside. If so, it was a close one.

Zanetti fouls Constant down the left channel.

Pazzini spreads the ball from right to left, and the ball is too heavy for Poli. But the fault was Milito's, who was yards offside, forcing the Italy striker to look for other options.

Lucas Pratto comes on for Ze Eduardo. It is tough for a Genoa striker in this 4-5-1 formation, but the Brazilian was pretty anonymous.

Better from Inter. Zanetti and Motta keep the ball well for a minute or so in midfield, then Nagatomo wastes it by drifting offside.

Lucio stretches for the ball and grimaces. Maybe he strained his hamstring?

Faraoni off for Inter, to be replaced by Ricky Alvarez.

Second half starts. Inter have had nine shots on goal, Genoa have had none.

Half-time in Genoa, and it is goalless.

So close for Inter! After a poor Motta free-kick, Lucio crosses first-time for Nagatomo from Zanetti's pass. The Japanese defender tries to knee the ball goalwards, but it goes wide.

Constant's cross punched clear by Cesar.

Four minutes of added-on time.

Faraoni fouls Emiliano Moretti near the corner flag.

Veloso's corner drops to Lucio, who heads clear, but the Portugal international will wonder why no Genoa player attacked the ball.

Rossi and Poli clash, the Genoa skipper gives the man 11 years his junior a few choice words.

The referee agrees, but Motta's free-kick is straight at Frey.

Pazzini shoots well wide when off balance. He exchanges words with Veloso, who he thinks impeded him as he turned.

Cesar punches Veloso's deep corner away well. Genoa look like they will only score through set-pieces, to be honest.

Milito is dragged to the floor on the edge of the area by Granqvist, but referee waves play on. That actually looked a penalty, as the former Wigan man had his arms all over the striker.

Samuel gets a foot on the loose ball in the area, and it drops to Milito three yards out, but the off-form Argentinian is denied again by Frey.

Milito wins a corner for Inter, and Faraoni's corner is met by Samuel, but Frey makes a magnificent scooped save.

Ze Eduardo clutches his head after Lucio goes through him trying to head away a clearance.

Kaladze clears Nagatomi's cross from the left, then Poli shanks an effort from 30 yards well wide under pressure from Andreas Granqvist.

Milito and Pazzini are getting nothing out of Kakha Kaladze and Dario Dainelli in the Genoa defence, and are drifting out to the flanks to change the angles now.

Lucio comes tearing out of defence after a tackle on Miguel Veloso, but his eventual pass to Milito is misplaced.

Rossi's marauding run wins a throw-in down the right as Lucio clears. It comes to nothing though.

Pazzini falls under a Merkel challenge, but no foul. The Italian looks pained at the referee's failure to give a free-kick outside the box.

Merkel fouls Zanetti, according to referee Banti. Though the German seemed to get a touch on the ball.

Zanetti now gives the ball away. This is dire stuff compared to last night's thrillfest between Roma and Juventus.

Rossi wins Genoa's first corner, off Poli on the right touchline. But Julio Cesar catches the corner well at the back post.

This is not a pretty game. It is very bitty and disjointed, neither side able to put a few passes together with any conviction.

Poli fouls Mesto, and the Inter man gets a lecture from the referee for his complaints. A second earlier, Yuto Nagatomo bundles Marco Rossi to the floor. It is getting tetchy!

Esteban Cambiasso's floated free-kick to the back post is terrible, and dribbles out for a goal kick.

Alexander Merkel catches Marco Davide Faraoni 25 yards from goal. The Italian gets the magic spray from the physio.

Walter Samuel penalised by referee Luca Banti for a foul, free-kick in midfield to Genoa.

Milito's effort whistles wide from 25 yards, after a good lay-off by Pazzini. Thiago Motta is unable to do anything with the loose ball at the subsequent corner.

Lucio bundles Ze Eduardo off the ball brilliantly in the centre-circle. Good tackle by the Brazilian on his compatriot.

Milito tries to spread the play right to left, but the Genoa defence are able to clear.

Both sides look edgy at the start, until Frey saves brilliantly from Pazzini! Genoa opened up by the pass, but Pazzini was very casual with the finish one-on-one and Frey did well to save.

Mesto and Giampaolo Pazzini collide as they go up for a header. Genoa fans are not sympathetic to the former Sampdoria striker, judging by the boos!

Former Genoa legend Diego Milito looks upset not to get a throw-in. Rightly as it came off Giandomenico Mesto.

Poli fouled early on his Inter debut, free-kick to the away side.

We are off, Inter in white kick off right to left.

The Genoa players are wearing a tribute to the flood victims on their shirts. Genoa goalkeeper Sebastien Frey has tears in his eyes.

Inter have striker Diego Forlan back for the first time since October. The Uruguayan suffered a leg injury while on international duty , but settles for a place on the bench. Wesley Sneijder remains absent with a muscular problem and defender Andrea Ranocchia is also out with a similar problem.

Genoa have Luca Antonelli, Valter Birsa and Juraj Kucka all sidelined, while striker Rodrigo Palacio is out until the New Year after sustaining a thigh injury against Siena at the weekend.
