Costa named player of the month
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been named Premier League player of the month for August with Swansea boss Garry Monk take the manager's award.
The Brazil-born Spain international has been in superb form – scoring four in his first three matches after his £32million move from Atletico Madrid,
Costa's goals helped his former side to the Spanish title last season after he got off to a rapid start with 10 in eight successive wins from the off.
Twelve months on Costa shows no signs of slowing down despite the hamstring problems which disrupted the end of his campaign.
"I’m very happy to win this award. It is important to begin well at a new club," he said.
"I’m pleased with both my start to the season and also the team’s, which is the most important thing."
Chelsea are hopeful Costa will be fit for Saturday's clash with Swansea despite the 25-year-old having suffered another hamstring set-back last week which saw him withdraw from Spain's squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia.
The fact that the Swansea clash is a top-of-the-table tussle has seen Swans' boss Monk pick up the manager of the month award.
Swansea head to Chelsea as league equals with both sides having won their opening three games.
