What a win for Athletic Club! And what a way for the match to be decided! There is no doubting who will be on the back pages tomorrow and that will be Aduriz. In his final season for the club, the 38-year-old came on with just minutes left to play and scored an overhead kick to beat the defending champions on opening weekend. Wow.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Athletic Club 1-0 Barcelona
Tipped over! Barcelona won a freekick high up the pitch, Lenglet got on the end of the delivery and forced Simon into a save. The Athletic goalkeeper tipped the effort over the bar.
I cannot stress enough how incredible a moment that was. That will surely be one of the goals of the season and it came on opening night, in the last minute from a player who had only just come on in his final season for his club, where he is a legend.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- GoalAritz AdurizAthletic Club
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Athletic Club 1 (89 mins - Aritz Aduriz) Barcelona 0. INCREDIBLE! What a moment! What a goal! What a way to win a match! The cross came in from the right side, Aduriz lined up the spectacular overhead kick and finds the back of the net! Ter Stegen didn't stand a chance! Wow, wow, wow!
- OffIñaki WilliamsAthletic Club
- OnAritz AdurizAthletic Club
Here comes Aduriz and he replaces Williams for the final few minutes of the match.
All of a sudden, it's as if Athletic Club have realised that they could win this game. They had been sitting back, but now Garitano is waving his players forward. Just a few minutes left of normal time.
Athletic Club wanted a freekick from that last corner kick, but the replay suggests that Berchiche and Rakitic had arms around each other. Not sure what VAR would have said about that.
Header from Griezmann! A corner kick is cleared, but only to the edge of the box. The cross comes back in from Rafinha, but Griezmann's header flashes over the crossbar.
His introduction off the bench was somewhat surprising, but since coming on Rafinha has probably been the best player on the pitch for Barcelona. He's been willing to take a risk.
- OffUnai LópezAthletic Club
- OnBeñatAthletic Club
Another change from Garitano and Benat comes on for the final 10 minutes. Lopez comes off.
Deflected wide! Great play from Rafinha to create the opportunity, weaving through three Athletic defenders, but his strike is deflected wide of the near post. What a goal that would have been.
Time is running out for Barcelona. They are remaining very calm and composed on the ball, but they surely need to start taking some more risks if they are to claim three points here.
The possession from Barcelona is relentless, but they aren't doing much with it in the final third. Athletic Club look pretty comfortable just sitting behind the ball and plugging the gaps.
- OffSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
- OnCarles PérezFC Barcelona
Indeed, there's the change and it's Roberto who comes off for Perez. Can he make the difference?
It looks like Valverde is going to make his final change and it's Perez who is coming on for the final 15 minutes. That just shows how injuries are affecting Barcelona early on this season.
PICTURE: Still waiting for the breakthrough in this match.
Athletic Club just can't get out of their own half at the moment. They won the ball back there, but Rakitic nipped in to win the pass played to Williams within about two seconds.
The TV cameras pan to Aduriz on the Athletic Club bench. He is a legend in these parts and I would be surprised if he doesn't come on at some point for the home side. Always dangerous.
As well as Athletic Club have played this evening it's starting to feel like they are holding on for a draw. Garitano is now packing the defence and the midfield. Holding on to what they have?
Over the bar! That was an opportunity for Barcelona to break the deadlock! Griezmann tried to wriggle through the Athletic defence, the ball fell back to Rakitic, but he strikes over the crossbar!
One of the issues Athletic Club are facing is that when they do win the ball they are finding that Williams, their only out ball, is growing increasingly isolated up front on his own!
Barcelona have now taken control of the ball again, but Athletic Club are doing a very good job of keeping their shape and their discipline. It's not easy to play in this way.
- OffOscar De MarcosAthletic Club
- OnOihan SancetAthletic Club
Sancet gets a very warm reception from the home supporters inside San Mames. A lot is expected of the youngster.
- Yellow cardUnai NúñezAthletic Club
And there's the first yellow card shown to an Athletic player and it's Nunez who is booked.
After a good spell from Barcelona there is a feeling that Athletic Club are starting to come into things again. They still have three changes to make off the bench as well. Could be key.
An update on Suarez's fitness...
This is a chance for Athletic... but they don't make the most of it. Berchiche went for sheer power with his freekick from 20 yards out and the ball flashes well wide of the Barca goal.
- Yellow cardGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
There's the first booking of the match and it's shown to Pique for a foul on Garcia. Contact made with the arm.
The idea was that the signing of Griezmann would give Barcelona a way to play without Messi. But on the basis of the 60 minutes played here, the Catalans still need their main man.
Barcelona have just one change left to make and it's difficult to see how they can change this game with Vidal and Coutinho not in the squad and Messi still out of action through injury.
Williams was in behind! Not for the first time tonight, the Athletic Club forward is released down a channel, this time directly from a goal kick, but he could only find the side netting.
This is better from Barcelona. They are doing a much better job of controlling the ball and are trying to speed things up. Starting to look more dangerous on the edge of the penalty box.
PICTURE: De Jong is making his Barca debut tonight.
Into the side netting! A lovely reverse pass from Dembele releases Rafinha through on goal. The angle was tight and he could only find the side netting, although there was a slight deflection off Nunez.
It will be interesting to see how the Coutinho loan deal to Bayern Munich affects Neymar's move to Barcelona. Coutinho was one of the players PSG wanted included in the transfer.
This has been a peculiar start to the second half. Both teams just seem to be feeling each other out after the break. Barcelona ended things strongly before the interval.
PICTURE: Suarez was forced off through injury.
Williams looked dangerous in the opening 20 minutes or so, but Barcelona have managed to get a grip of the Athletic Club forward since then. Still looks relatively likely.
Barcelona were generally poor in the first half, but did strike the woodwork twice through Rafinha and Suarez. The latter has since been forced off through injury. Barca have had to change things.
- OffCarles AleñaFC Barcelona
- OnIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
Valverde has made another change at the break and it's Rakitic who comes on for Alena.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still goalless between Athletic Club and Barcelona on opening night of the 2019/20 La Liga season.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Athletic Club 0-0 Barcelona. We are still waiting for the first goal of the night, and of the new La Liga season, but this has been an entertaining match so far. Very eventful.
Just one minute of stoppage time to be played at the end of the first half.
Rattled off the crossbar! That would have been a goal of the season contender on opening night! That was a thunderbolt from Rafinha, who curled a strike towards goal from the edge of the box. Simon might have tipped that on to the woodwork!
So now it seems that Rafinha is out on the right side and Dembele is on the left side, where Griezmann - who is now through the middle - was playing. More as we get it.
This looked like being a tough game for Barcelona and so it has proved in the first half. Athletic Club have more than held their own and have looked very dangerous and potent.
So it looks like Griezmann is now playing through the centre with Rafinha moving into the midfield. Does this mean Alba will have more freedom down the left wing? Hmmm...
Effort from distance! Space opened up for Lopez about 25 to 30 yards out. He lined up the strike, but Ter Stegen was confident all the way that it was going wide. He was proven right.
- OffLuis SuárezFC Barcelona
- OnRafinhaFC Barcelona
SUAREZ OFF! The Barcelona striker has in fact been forced off. It's not quite clear what injury he has picked up, but Rafinha is on in his place. A reshuffle needed from Valverde here.
Chance for Garcia! Alba was beaten by the one-two, with Capa getting in behind the Barcelona defence. He cut back for Garcia from the byline, but on the stretch his shot is saved by Ter Stegen.
It looks like Suarez will be fine to continue. The way the Barcelona medical team is treating him, it's just a knock rather than something muscular which would have forced him off.
PICTURE: It hasn't happened for Barcelona so far...
Suarez knock! So the Barcelona striker ended up in that position, where he was lurking in front of the goalkeeper, because he had a knock. Now he's down and might need to come off. What a strange sequence of events.
Off the post! Very nearly a gift for Barcelona! It was a horrible moment for Lopez, who gave the ball straight to Suarez inside the box. The Barcelona striker could only hit the base of the post with his shot! Lopez just didn't look with the back pass!
De Jong is dropping in between Pique and Lenglet to pick up possession, but Garcia is following him everywhere he goes and that is resulting in some hairy moments at the back!
Cross from Alba! Griezmann moves into the middle and all of a sudden there's space for Alba out wide. He gets down the left side and crosses into the middle for Griezmann and Suarez. Move breaks down, though.
Flag was up! De Marcos was played in behind, he then lobbed a cross into the six yard box, but the flag was eventually raised. There was a delay due to the VAR protocol. Easy call.
That's two or three times now that Alba and Griezmann have got in each other's way. Griezmann drifting out wide seems to be clogging up the space for the Barcelona left back.
Confusion! A bit of confusion from Athletic Club over the new goal kick rules. The team taking the goal kick are allowed to pass within the box, but attacking players cannot be in there.
The home side just look the sharper of the two teams. They are quicker to the second ball and there's a momentum to their play whenever they come forward with speed on the break.
PICTURE: All eyes on the newbie...
It's quite clear that Athletic are deliberately looking to crowd out De Jong in the centre of the pitch. There are three, sometimes four, players in red and white around him when he gets the ball. Almost every time.
Dembele showed some good vision to play a quick ball in behind for Suarez, but the pass was a little too heavy and Simon comes out to gather. Barca need to do that more - make a quick move. Too slow so far.
What has been quite surprising about Barcelona's performance in these opening 20 minutes is that Griezmann is drifting very wide and very wide. It's difficult to nail down his role.
This is a bit better from Barcelona. They are holding the ball in the opposition half, but there's so little space in behind the Athletic Club defence to exploit. Tough to break down so far.
There's very little fluidity to Barcelona's play at the moment. That's perhaps to be expected considering how different this team is to the one that played the majority of last season.
In behind! That was a real opportunity for Williams, who was played in behind the Barcelona defence! The angle was tight for the Athletic forward, but Ter Stegen made the save at his near post.
Barcelona's somewhat experimental midfield trio of Alena, De Jong and Roberto is failing to do the business so far. They are struggling to get a true grip of the game in the middle.
Whistles! Griezmann is getting quite the reception from the home supporters whenever he touches the ball. Of course, the Frenchman played for Real Sociedad before moving to Atletico Madrid.
Athletic Club are looking to play at a high pace whenever they win the ball. It's in stark contrast to the approach of Barcelona, who have tried to play a considered game so far.
There were signs of a burgeoning partnership between Griezmann and Suarez over pre-season. The hope is that Griezmann's signing will give Barcelona a way to play without Messi.
Coutinho travelled with the rest of the Barcelona squad to this game, he is in the stadium! But the Catalan club have now confirmed a loan agreement with Bayern Munich for the playmaker.
It's been a lively start to this match by Athletic Club. They have been the better of the two teams in the opening 10 minutes or so. Williams in particular looks very dangerous.
Strike from Williams! Athletic very nearly made the most of a terrible pass by Dembele which put Barcelona on the back foot. Williams took aim from about 25 yards out, but Ter Stegen made the diving save.
Griezmann appears to have started out on the left side, with Suarez through the middle and Dembele out to the right for Barcelona. The Frenchman allows the ball to run out of play with his first touch. Oops.
Good work from Williams to recover the ball and play it back to a teammate. He has found his best position in recent times and that's through the middle as the central striker.
Athletic suffered a difficult season last term, but nonetheless, this remains one of the toughest places in La Liga to visit as an opposition team. This won't be easy for Barcelona.
This is an interesting starting lineup from Valverde. He has picked a midfield trio of Alna, De Jong and Roberto. Is this a sign of the direction the Barcelona boss wants to take his team in this season?

Okay, here we go. We're about to get started at San Mames. The 2019/20 La Liga season begins here! Kick off is just moments away.
Great atmosphere at San Mames. The two teams are waiting in the tunnel to walk out on to the pitch.
Not long until kick off at San Mames. This is a stadium that Barcelona have had their struggles at in recent years. This might not be easy.
It's been a quiet summer for Athletic Club. In fact, they haven't made a single signing over the transfer window. They have, however, managed to keep hold of Williams amid interest from England.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. What do you expect from Barcelona tonight and this season? Tweet me!
There is also no Messi for Barcelona this evening, although that was expected. The Argentine is expected to miss the first few weeks of the new season as he recovers from a calf injury.
No Coutinho! There's no doubting where the big team news is ahead of this one. Coutinho has been left out of the Barcelona squad amid speculation that he is on his way to Bayern Munich on loan.
