This is a result that doesn't suit either of these two teams. You would have to say that it's difficult to envisage how Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid can catch Barcelona at the top of La Liga. There's now a 10 point gap between the Catalans and Real Madrid. TEN POINTS. In November. Is the season over already?

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid
Is there one last chance remaining in this match? There's been very little between these two sides. Defences have been on top, chances have been at a premium. Whoever scores now, wins.
Two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
BIG RONALDO CHANCE! It opened up for Real Madrid on the counter attack, with Marcelo playing the ball out to Ronaldo, but Lucas makes the sliding challenge to block his effort.
There are claims for penalties and freekicks all over the place. That kind of sums up this game - there's been a real lack of quality from both teams. Instead, it's been really scrappy.
DIFFICULT ONE FOR OBLAK! Kroos takes aim from about 20 yards out, with the ball moving all over the place. Oblak just about gets enough on the strike to keep it out of the net.
There is a sense that this game is just beginning to open up in these final few moments. Atletico Madrid are showing more attacking intent, or at least they are playing more on the counter.
- Yellow cardLucas HernándezAtlético Madrid
... and one for Lucas. It was following some handbags inside the box.
- Yellow cardNachoReal Madrid
Yellow cards all round - one for Nacho...
RONALDO SHOT IS SAVED! The Real Madrid number seven lines up the freekick from a tight angle, but Oblak is equal to the shot. At least that one was on target from Ronaldo.
JUANFRAN GETS LUCKY! The Atletico Madrid right back is already on a yellow card when he commits a foul on Ronaldo. But the referee gives Juanfran one last chance. Big call.
PENALTY CLAIM! Atletico Madrid's players and fans feel that they should have been awarded a penalty kick, but the referee decides that Ronaldo didn't handle from Gabi's shot.
OFF THE LINE! Gameiro comes so close to scoring the opener! He clipped a lofted finish towards the empty Real Madrid net, but Varane got back to head off the line. Wow! Drama.
That was an interesting reaction from the Atletico Madrid fans to Griezmann going off. He was whistled off. With every game, it looks more and more likely that he will leave the club.
- OffAntoine GriezmannAtlético Madrid

... and Torres is also on for the home side.
- OffÁngel CorreaAtlético Madrid
- OnKevin GameiroAtlético Madrid
Atletico Madrid are going for it. First, it's Gameiro who comes on...
Kroos attempts to stage up a ball for Benzema and Ronaldo to attack, but he gets his angles wrong and it lands on top of the Atletico Madrid net. A real lack of attacking quality.
Is there a reason Zidane is waiting so long to bring on Asensio? Real Madrid have quite clearly needed another dimension in attack for about 15 minutes. Yet he's still warming up.
For the first time since he came on, Carrasco picks up the ball and drives at the Real Madrid backline, but he couldn't beat three of them and in the end he is crowded off the ball.
Both teams are scared to lose this game, but the irony is that this result suits neither of them. Will Atletico Madrid push for a winner at any point? That would certainly open things up.
Atletico Madrid have done next to nothing to test that Real Madrid defence since they lost Ramos to a broken nose at half time. Griezmann has had no impact on this game whatsoever.
This game is still up for grabs. Real Madrid have been the better side, but you wouldn't say that they have created loads of opportunities. Atletico Madrid can still snatch this one.
Asensio is down on the touchline getting ready to come on. When will we see the 21-year-old? And who will he come on to replace? A draw is no use to Real Madrid here, remember.
- Yellow cardSaúlAtlético Madrid
A booking for Saul. Atletico Madrid are getting more and more ragged in th middle.
Where are the runners? Correa teases a wonderful ball into the six yard box, in between goalkeeper and defender, but nobody in a red and white shirt had gambled on it. They watched it pass by them.
It's strange to see Griezmann in this funk. He was exceptional for Atletico Madrid last season, but he hasn't been the same player in recent weeks and months. Very peculiar.
Isco believes that he was fouled right on the edge of the Atletico Madrid penalty area. The referee, however, decides that Gabi got a toe on the ball. The replays are inconclusive.
The home fans aren't so happy with that. Atletico Madrid looked to be flying out of the traps on the counter attack, but they instead decided to turn back. What was the thinking there?
This game might be goalless, but it has been a compelling contest so far. Both these teams are struggling with their own problems at the moment. It's been interesting to see that play out.
Well, Saul is usually a lot better than that. The ball was worked to the midfielder 25 yards out, taking aim. But he lashes his effort well over. Saul loves a goal in a big game.
With that change, Atletico Madrid have changed shape a little bit. They have been very poor as an attacking force in this second half. Will Carrasco help change that? That's the idea.
- OffThomas ParteyAtlético Madrid
- OnYannick CarrascoAtlético Madrid
Indeed, here's the change for Atletico. Thomas comes off and is replaced by Carrasco. Interesting.
Carrasco has been sent to warm up. We could be about to see the Belgian, who has suffered from injuries this season. His atitude has also been questioned by Simeone.
Real Madrid have started the second half well. Atletico Madrid are having to defend a number of crosses into the box, but the issue for the hosts is they have no outlet on the break.
Good build up play results in Carvjal slinging a ball into the penalty area, but Juanfran deals with it. The final pass has been the issue for Real Madrid all night long. That's all that's missing.
Real Madrid probably had the better of the first half, but they are suffering from a lack of movement in the final third. Isco is on a different page to the likes of Benzema and Ronaldo.
- OffSergio RamosReal Madrid
- OnNachoReal Madrid
There was a change at the break, with Nacho coming on to replace Ramos. The latter appears to have suffered a broken nose in that clash with Lucas.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still goalless between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid. An entertaining half comes to a close. Real Madrid have probably edged it, but Correa should have given Atleti the lead early on.
Atletico Madrid need the half time break here. Real Madrid are now getting in behind them down the wings. Simeone needs to get hold of his players at the interval. A bit ragged.
Of course, Atletico Madrid signed Diego Costa a few weeks ago, but can't register him until the transfer embargo is lifted in January. Will the Spanish international make a difference?
By the same token, Griezmann hasn't really been involved for Atletico Madrid in this first half. The Frenchman doesn't look himself at the moment. Has he got his mind on a move?
It's just not happening for Benzema at the moment. He has been in poor form so far this season and there is no sign that that is about to change this evening. A passenger for Real.
Will Simeone make any changes at the break should things stay the same? Atletico Madrid are second best at the moment. They have lost that threat from earlier in the game.
Looking back on that challenge from Savic on Kroos a few minutes ago, it could have been a red quite easily. It was a really bad tackle from the Atletico Madrid defender. He got lucky.
There's a feeling that Real Madrid are starting to take a grip of things. Atletico Madrid are having to do more defending. The away side are winning plenty of set pieces. What can they do with them?
RAMOS TAKES A SORE ONE! The Real Madrid defender was up for a corner and stayed up to flick a header towards goal when it came in again, taking one on the nose from Lucas.
RONALDO STRIKES ON GOAL! The Real Madrid number seven lines up the freekick from the best part of 25 yards, but Oblak did well to get down low and make the diving save.
- Yellow cardStefan SavicAtlético Madrid
That's an easy decision for the referee. Savic crunched Kroos in the tackle.
GREAT CHANCE FOR KROOS! Fantastic link up play between the German midfielder and Ronaldo presents him with a wonderful chance, but he clips his effort past the near post.
Isco is working hard, dropping deep to pick up the ball and drive forward, but when he gets into the final third there is a real lack of options. Benzema and Ronaldo aren't making the runs.
Atletico Madrid are allowing Real Madrid to have plenty of the ball around the halfway line, but are refusing them to get near the penalty area. They press high when they get to there.
Ronaldo has been left on the ground. He feels that he was fouled, not once but twice. He had a case. He actually ended up going head first into an Atleti player as he fell.
There's a real fight to the way Atletico Madrid are playing this game, but a lack of quality when they work their way into the final third. This has been a fairly even contest up until now.
- Yellow cardDani CarvajalReal Madrid
There's a booking, with Carvajal entering the book for a late challenge on Lucas.
The paradox of Atletico Madrid's poor form is that they have only lost once so far this season, and it came at home to Chelsea in the Champions League. Not easy to get the better of them.
WAS THAT NEEDED? Well, surely there's a case for a booking there? Benzema was down on the ground after being fouled by Juanfran, only for Correa to boot the ball right at him.
Benzema is another who has been struggling for form of late. The Frenchman is finding goals hard to come by at the moment. Some have suggested he needs competition from someone.
Huge cheer inside the Metropolitano! Ronaldo chased a ball that looked to play him clean through on goal, but Juanfran caught him to make the challenge. The home fans enjoyed that!
The pass back to Casilla is a slack one and the Real Madrid goalkeeper has to stretch to make the clearance. Of course, Navas is still out injured for the Spanish and European champions.
Real Madrid are enjoying a spell of dominance. Atletico Madrid can't keep the ball and the host are having to sit deep and absorb the pressue. They look pretty solid, though, it has to be said.
Of course, the other Real Madrid star who has been struggling with injury recently is Bale. However, the Welsh winger suffered another set back in training this week. He'll be out for a while longer.
Varane is back in the Real Madrid starting lineup having missed the last few matches through injury. The Frenchman has been missed at the back. But he looks a little shaky early on.
Despite missing that early opportunity, Correa looks like being Atletico Madrid's best chance of a goal here. This time he surges through the Real Madrid defence, but is eventually tackled.
Atletico Madrid have struggled for a creative spark all season. Griezmann has been in poor form and the knock-on effect of that has been massive. But they look lively this evening.
It's been a less than sure start to the match by Real Madrid, but they are feeling their way into the contest now. Marcelo gets into the box, but his cross is blocked by the first man.
By every measure, that was a sitter for Correa. He really should have put it away. Real Madrid look extremely vulnerable at the back and the Argentine could have made them pay for it.
WHAT A CHANCE! A toe poke from Varane puts Correa clean through on goal after a mix-up at the back by Real Madrid, but the Atleti forward clips his shot wide of the near post. That should be 1-0.
Of course, this is the first Madrid derby to be played at the new Metropolitano. This is a magnificent stadium, but can Atletico make it a fortress like the Vicente Calderon was for them?
This is a massive game for both teams. A draw suits neither. They need three points to stay in touch with Barcelona at the top of the Liga table. The Catalans are running away with it.
