As far as pre-season friendlies go, that was one of the better ones. Plenty to pick apart after the full time whistle. Arsenal looked to be in control of things, but then allowed the match to get away from them in the second half. The sending off of Sokratis and the introduction of Bale really changed things.

PENALTY SCORED! Real Madrid 0-1 Arsenal: It's Nelson who takes the first penalty kick. He had to take it twice, but he finds the bottom corner of the net.
- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 2-2 Arsenal. We're going to a penalty shootout!
We're just seconds away from a penalty shootout to decide this International Champions Cup match. Is there time for one last opportunity for either team to find a late winner?
Strike from distance! We all know that Xhaka can hit them from range, but the Swiss midfielder doesn't quite catch his effort and Courtois can make the straightforward save.
Nelson had options on his left and right as Arsenal burst forward on the counter attack, but he dithered on the ball and that allowed Real Madrid to win it and launch a counter of their own.
There will be four minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Nketiah has been excellent for Arsenal these past couple weeks, but he should have done better with those two opportunities. That was the chance to win this game for the Gunners.
Another Nketiah chance! The young striker has been excellent in pre-season so far, but he should have scored there as well. He glanced a header wide of the far post with the goal gaping.
Massive chance! That was the moment for Arsenal to win this match. Nketiah was played clean in on goal, Courtois stayed rather than coming out, but the Belgian smothered the effort.
Bale's introduction has electrified this match. He has made such a difference for Real Madrid. Is there a winner left in this for one of these two sides? Still five minutes left to play.
Arsenal have managed to gather themselves in the last few minutes and are giving it a go to find a winner. However, the final ball (this time from Nelson) hasn't been good enough.
How will Vinicius fit into this Real Madrid team next season? He was a breakthrough star last season, but he will face competition from Asensio and Hazard for a place in the side.
Emery is unhappy on the touchline. He is angry with his own players for the performance they have turned in in this second half. They have allowed the game to get away from them.
The first half was all about Arsenal and the second half has been all about Real Madrid. I'm sure there is a cliche that sums up the pattern of this match...
The only thing that's missing from this Bale performance in this second half is a winner to completely turn around this match for Real Madrid. All the headlines will be about him.
That was a good opportunity for Odriozola to get a cross into the penalty area where he had options, but the delivery was tame and was far too close to Martinez. Disappointing.
Almost a stunner! Wow! That would have been the ultimate mic drop from Bale! He directed an outside of the boot shot towards goal, but sent his effort not far of the far post. That would have been sensational.
This is exactly the sort of performance Bale would have wanted. It seemed doubtful that he would even get on the pitch after the events of last week. Such a strange, strange game.
Off the line! It's Bale up one end and Bale down the other end! After a bit of a scramble inside the box Chambers gets a shot away, it was heading in, but the Welshman was back on the line to clear.
Arsenal need to find something to turn this match around because they have lost a grip of things in this second half. Real Madrid have been all over them since the restart.
Almost an own goal! Bale is pulling off the tricks in and around the Arsenal box, he crosses with the outside of his boot and Kolasinac very nearly chests into the back of his own net!
Header on target! That was a decent effort from Monreal, but Courtois made the save look easy. The Belgian goalkeeper came on for Navas at the half time interval.
Arsenal dominated the majority of the first half, but it's been all Real Madrid since the Gunners were reduced to 10 men. Keep in mind that Real have also had a player sent off!
Bale has been excellent since coming off the bench. He has given Real Madrid real presence in attack. So someone explain to me why Real Madrid are so keen to get rid of him?
A few changes from Real Madrid after the injury to Asensio. Zidane has decided to give the kids a chance and Vinicius, de la Fuente and Seoane all come on for the final 25 minutes.
That was a real shame to see Asensio react so badly to picking up that injury. He had been flying after coming off the bench. That could rule him out for quite some time. Terrible.
PICTURE: This seems like a long time ago now...
Asensio injury! Oh dear. This doesn't look good for the Real Madrid player. Asensio collided with Aubameyang and now he is being stretchered off in tears. Could that he a knee injury?
- GoalMarco AsensioReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 (59 mins - Marco Asensio) Arsenal 2. Asensio came on at half time and he has scored the equaliser fo Real Madrid! That was a lovely move. Asensio passed Marcelo down the left side, the pass was then played back to him and he lashed a finish into the back of the net!
That goal had been coming for Real Madrid. Arsenal had been dropping deeper and deeper since they were reduced to 10 men. It's the Spanish side on top of things at the moment.
There was a muted celebration from Bale after that goal. He clearly isn't happy about what has happened this summer as he gets pushed closer and closer to the exit door.
- GoalGareth BaleReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (56 mins - Gareth Bale) Arsenal 2. Bale has scored in what will surely be his final appearance for Real Madrid! Marcelo's reverse pass released Isco, then Asensio had a shot smothered by Martinez. Bale was on hand to prod into the back of the empty net, though.
This has been much better from Real Madrid. They have seriously lifted their game since the sending off of Sokratis. A goal from the Spanish giants now seems inevitable.
Smashed off the woodwork! Inches away from a stunner from Asensio. He took aim from 20 yards out, he beat Martinez, but saw his effort come off the post. Varane then shoots over.
Martinez has been quite impressive for Arsenal so far this evening. Might he give Leno a run for his money in the battle to be the Gunners' number one goalkeeper this season?
Bale is seeing plenty of the ball early on in this second half. He has chased a long ball over the top and then his first touch allowed Arsenal to stop a Real Madrid attack.
Arsenal have made a change at the half time interval as well. Monreal has come on for Willock. The young midfielder enjoyed a decent first half, so will surely be disappointed to have been hooked.
Zidane had some blunt words to say about Bale's future at Real Madrid over the weekend. Now, he has handed the Welsh winger 45 minutes in this pre-season friendly. Weird.
Okay, so it looks like six changes have been made to the Real Madrid team at the break. Hazard has come off and Bale (yes, that Bale) has come on. We didn't expect to see him play for Real Madrid again!
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way at FedEx Field. There have been a lot of changes made. We'll try to spot them and run through them.
What did you make of the first half? Has the referee been a bit too harsh with some of his decisions? Is there a way back for Real Madrid after the sending off of Sokratis? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 0-2 Arsenal. The match was more competitive towards the end of the first half, but Arsenal have a two-goal advantage over Real Madrid at FedEx Field. Strange game so far.
Off the post! That's the closest Real Madrid have come to finding the net. Benzema gets on the end of a cross, but his header down into the ground comes off the outside of the post.
Real Madrid chance! That really should have been a tap in for Benzema. Carvajal got in behind, Benzema was in the middle waiting for the squared pass, but the ball is too close to Martinez.
That sending off might actually give this match a shot in the arm. Real Madrid have been given a lifeline. They surrounded the referee to make the case that Sokratis should be sent off.
- Red cardSokratis PapastathopoulosArsenal
SENT OFF! The referee has shown Sokratis a second yellow card for a foul on Modric. Does he know that this is a friendly match? It's 10 men against 10 now! What a crazy decision.
- Yellow cardSokratis PapastathopoulosArsenal
That's another yellow card from the referee, this time fo Sokratis for hauling down Kroos.
Wild shot! Ozil found space down the left and then crossed for Lacazette. The Arsenal striker's first touch set him up for the shot on the bounce, but he lashed at his effort and it flies over.
Is it possible that we could see Bale at some point in this match? I think most expected that the Welsh winger had played his last game for Real Madrid before leaving for China.
Mendy plays the cross into the opposition penalty area, but there were two Real Madrid players - Benzema and Ramos - offside. That was lazy from the two veterans of this team.
Arsenal have yet to make a major signing this summer, but they are expected to complete some deals in the coming weeks. One such deal could see Tierney arrive.
Emery will be very pleased with what he has seen from his Arsenal team in this first half. However, it must also be factored in that Real Madrid have been well below par. Strange display.
Aubameyang and Lacazette bring so much to this Arsenal team with their partnership in attack. Both have been linked with other teams this summer, but they are so important to the Gunners.
Bale isn't the only Real Madrid expected to be on his way out of the club in the coming days. According to reports, Arsenal have signed Ceballos on loan until the end of the season.
It will, of course, take time for some of the new signings made by Real Madrid to bed into their new team. Hazard, for instance, looks a little out of sorts in this side right now.
- Yellow cardDani CarvajalReal Madrid
It's a yellow card for Carvajal now. Real Madrid are starting to allow frustration to bubble to the surface.
This has been a tough opening 30 minutes for Real Madrid. They have not found their groove at all. Of course, this is just a pre-season game, but Zidane will be slightly concerned.
- GoalPierre-Emerick AubameyangArsenal
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 0 Arsenal 2 (25 mins - Pierre Emerick Aubameyang). It's a second goal for the Gunners! They are in complete control of this match. Lacazette's little flick set Aubameyang through on goal, he rounded Navas and then found the back of the net despite the best efforts of Ramos to clear on the line.
Real Madrid struggled badly last season, but Zidane used a number of games towards the end of the campaign to test his squad. Now, however, they must hit the ground running.
Penalty claim! Real Madrid believe that they should have had a spot kick of their own. They think that Carvajal was bundled over inside the area by Xhaka. There wasn't much in that.
So many were looking forward to seeing how Jovic would fit into this Real Madrid team this evening, but the new summer signing barely got a touch of the ball before being taken off.
Vazquez had been moved back into the right back position after the sending off of Nacho, but now Zidane has shifted his team into a back three after the introduction of Varane.
That change from Zidane seems to have settled Real Madrid down a bit. They are starting to get their passing going with Hazard chipping a cross into the hands of Martinez.
Jovic was signed for around £60 million after an excellent season for Eintracht Frankfurt last term, but he had a poor game against Bayern Munich at the weekend and has been hooked here.
Zidane has decided to make a change here and Jovic comes off for Varane.
Hazard is still wearing the number 50 on the back of his shirt. The speculation is that he is waiting for Bale to leave Real Madrid before taking number 11 as his new squad number.
Real Madrid have their backs against the wall here. It looks like Arsenal could score a few more before the evening is out. That Nacho red card has really harmed the Spaniards.
It's all Arsenal at the moment. Are Real Madrid let lagged? What is going on? This has been a dreadful start from the Spanish giants. They have had a poor start to pre-season in general.
Shot over the bar! Kolasinac plays the pass back to Mkhitaryan who hits the strike first time, but the Armenian sends his effort over the crossbar. That was a decent option for the Gunners.
- Goal by penaltyAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 0 Arsenal 1 (11 mins - Alexandre Lacazette). It's an early lead for the Gunners who now find themselves a goal and a man to the good! Lacazette managed to hit both posts with his penalty kick, but it just about crosses the line and Arsenal have the advantage in this match.
- Red cardNachoReal Madrid
SENT OFF! After some deliberation the referee has shown Nacho a red card for that handball on the line. That is the correct decision by the law, but come on... this is pre-season!
PENALTY KICK TO ARSENAL! Lacazette rounds the goalkeeper and Nacho handles on the line. The referee points to the spot.
Willock shot on target! The youngster is able to get on the ball and drive forward. He gets the shot away, but it was somewhat tame and Navas can make the straightforward save.
Palmed away! That wasn't too convincing from Navas. The freekick delivery from Ozil was a direct one, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper did just enough to deal with the danger. Just.
There's no sign of Bale for Real Madrid this evening. Indeed, the Welsh winger is expected to leave the Spanish club in the coming days with the 30-year-old supposedly heading to China.
Lots of red in the stadium.
Late change! Maitland-Niles picked up a calf injury late on in the warm ups for Arsenal and so there was a late change to the lineup with Jenkinson coming in at the last minute.
Good save! Benzema drives to the edge of the opposition box and gets a good, low shot away. Martinez makes the diving save at his near post to deny the Real Madrid striker, though.
Both Real Madrid and Arsenal have picked strong teams for this game. For Real Madrid, this is just their second pre-season game. But for Arsenal, this is their last game of this International Champions Cup.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Real Madrid against Arsenal in the International Champions Cup!
Okay, here we go. About to get started at FedEx Field in Maryland. Kick off is just moments away.
This is essentially a pre-season match, but in this International Champions Cup format there is at least a slight competitive edge.
Not long until kick off at FedEx Field. The two teams have warmed up and we're just minutes away from the game getting underway.
This doesn't look great...
It's a strong team from Real Madrid. Hazard has been handed a start and Zidane is also experimenting with using new signing Jovic and Benzema as a front two. That will be interesting.
The armband! The main headline for Arsenal ahead of this match is that Ozil has been handed the captain's armband! That is quite significant at a time when Koscielny is out in the cold as captain.
