21:39

So, thanks for your company - night night.

21:38

That was a fun game. It lacked the intensity of one that meant something, but there was lots of nice association football to enjoy. So Madrid progress to the knockouts behind Spurs, where they'll reward some groupwinner or other, and Dortmund go looking for Arsenal in the Europa League.

21:37

Full-time: Real Madrid 3-2 Borussia Dortmund

90+2'

Liverpool have beaten Spartak 7 [seven]-0

90+2'

Yarmolenko replaces Kagawa; it's his big chance.

90'

There shall be three added minutes.

90'

Llorente slices a shot from outside the box which flicks off Schmelzer, and Madrid have another corner ... which comes to nothing.

90'

Madrid haven't let up since going in front a second time - Dortmund can't get hold of the ball to go for an equaliser.

87'

Llorente finds Theo with a lovely flick who, seeing the keeper off his line, swings a shot towards the far post instead of the expected cross, and Burki frantically back-peddles ... but the ball drops just wide.

85'

Ronaldo's looked really sharp tonight, and he darts across the face of the box off the left, swivelling into a low shot that's too close to Burki, down by his near post.

84'

Lucas Vasquez zips forward and finds Asensio, whose cross is too strong for Ronaldo.

84'

Madrid earned that goal; they've been knocking at the door for 15 minutes now.

80'

GOAL! Real Madrid 3-2 Borussia Dortmund (Lucas Vasquez) Madrid pump another ball into the box and Mayoral challenges Bartra, who can't clear effectively. The ball drops to Theo, who sets for Vasquez - outside the box, left of centre - and he contorts his body to use the outside of his right foot, forcing the ball across Burki and in.

79'

Madrid use the corner to force another, and Casemiro outjumps Weigl to nod down ... and Ronaldo turns home! Except he's called for offside ... looking at a reply, that looked on to me.

79'

Lucas crosses very well from the right and only a desperate lunge from Subotic can divert the ball behind.

78'

Looking again at the penalty claim, Subotic did impede Ronaldo, but cunningly enough to escape detection. Well played.

77'

Madrid are getting closer, Asensio going down the right and standing up a cross to the back post; Mayoral nods it back, but too gently, and Ronaldo can't generate the power necessary to beat Burki.

76'

Lovely low, swinging cross from Theo ... Mayoral and Ronaldo both stretch for it .. but neither can get there. Ronaldo wants a penalty, saying Subotic pulled him back, but it looked fine to both me and the referee.

75'

Madrid are dominating now...

74'

Ceballos has looked lively, and he curls in a cross towards the back post on which Ronaldo can't get enough.

74'

Oh, my stream has jumped ... but Ronaldo finds Lucas, who cracks a shot that's saved.

70'

Someone should make a new, improved version and call it the Isco 2000.

70'

Madrid make their final change: Llorente replaces the wonderful Isco.

69'

I wonder if Dortmund can use this performance to, er, "kickstart" their season. coming back from 2-0 down at the Bernabeu, even if Bale, Kroos and Modric aren't involved, is no small deal.

67'

Isco is having a fine second half, and he darts in and out on the right to win a corner; it comes to nothing.

65'

Weigl replaces Sahin.

63'

Ronaldo has Bartra on toast here, diddling him yet again before having a cross blocked.

63'

Pulisic takes the ball wide on the left, slips it between Ramos and Theo, and darts between them himself, flinging himself to the ground at the same time. He wants a penalty, but isn't getting one.

61'

Madrid have been better these last ten or so minutes.

59'

Asensio finds Isco, who curls in towards the back post, just too powerfully for Ronaldo to reach.

58'

Ceballos replaces Kovacic.

57'

This is a really good game now, and Pulisic drives down the right; his cross is cleared eventually.

55'

Lovely ball from Casemiro into Isco, who can't quite find Ronaldo, and suddenly Dortmund break, Aubameyang dashing forward and into the box before Nacho slides in at the last. The corner comes to nowt.

54'

Liverpool have already scored twice in the second half, so it's now 5-0 and Coutinho has three of them.

52'

Isco picks up Dahoud's poor pass, stretches forward, and finds Ronaldo in the middle. He's alone and has bare time, but opts to sweep a first time finish that he doesn't middle, sending the ball spinning just wide when he should've scored.

50'

Snigger.

48'

GOAL! Real Madrid 2-2 Borussia Dortmund (Aubameyang) This is strange and beautiful. Sahin darts a ball into the box and Kagawa backflicks to find Aubameyang in the box and he looks offside - he is offside, so everyone stops - but the flag stays down. So he ducks inside Ramos and shoots low, Navas saving with a sweeping leg only to return the ball to Aubameyang, who stubs a chip over him and in. That's beautifully done, and Madrid are suddenly struggling.

48'

Dortmund's Twitter is a bit wacky.

47'
46'

Off we go again.

20:37
20:33

That was a fairly fun half in the end. For a while it looked like Madrid would mash Dortmund into tiny pieces, but after about 25 minutes they remembered that they're quite good and fought back well.

20:32

Half-time: Real Madrid 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

45'

There'll be one added minute.

43'

GOAL! Real Madrid 2-1 Borussia Dortmund 1 (Aubameyang) Nacho plays a poor pass which Schmelzer intercepts, before slinging over a cross for Aubameyang; he dives to punch a glancing header into the far corner, a very nicely taken effort.

42'

Clever from Isco, who gets to the line and, with the defenders expecting a cross, cuts back for Mayoral. The ball is actually a little behind him, so he has at it from around his left buttick, sending a shot just wide.

41'

Son has put Spurs 2-0 up on Apoel Dortmund look safely ensconced in the Europa League now.

40'

Please forgive me: I forgot to note that earlier on Batra was booked for hoofing Theo.

38'

Varane hurt himself trying to foil Aubameyang, so is replaced by Asensio. Nacho moves into the middle of defence, Lucas Vasquez goes to right-back - ha ha, as Nelson muntz would say - and Asensio goes up front.

37'

Manchester City now trail Shakhtar 2-0. Napoli are going out, and some group winner is getting a trip they can't be arsed for.

35'

Dortmund are playing well now, Dahoud and Sahin moving gthe ball in midfield. And then Bartra turns up outside the box, dead centre, and with Ramos stepping up for no reason, slides a pass through for Aubameyang. He really ought to score, but as Varane shuffles a cross, he drags a rushed effort wide. Poor.

e34'

And we're back. It's still 2-0.

30'

Ah, I appear to have lost pictures...

29'

Dortmund are getting good possession now, and also getting men forward. Sahin looks to chip a cross towards the back post, but Ramos is up to head clear.

29'
28'

Bernard has given Shakhtar the lead against Manchester City.

27'

Ey oop, Dortmund are coming. Pulisic beats Theo then curves a low pass to the back post, seeking Aubameyang, but Varane is there first. He needed to be.

25'

It's gone quiet, but as I type that, Guerreiro finds space down the left, lots of it, and directs a low cross that Aubameyang only just fails to reach. Dortmund retrieve the ball, though, and Pulisic cuts in from the right and spanks a low shot that Navas palms out on the dive.

23'

At Wembley, Winks and Aurier have combined to create a goal for Fernando Llorente.

22'

Theo finds Ronaldo down the left and hares off in pursuit, accepting the backheel return and cracking a low shot just wide of the far post. Anyone seen Pulisic anywhere?

21'
20'

Firmino has put Liverpool 3-0 up. I think they're going to qualify.

19'
19'
17'

Ronaldo and Casemiro exchange passes, but Burki is out fast to smother.

17'

Elsewhere, Maribor lead Sevilla, Porto lead Monaco and Besiktas lead Leipzig.

16'

At Anfield, Coutinho has scored again for Liverpool, while Napoli lead Feyenoord; they'll progress if Manchester City beat Shakhtar.

15'

Dortmund are cruisin for a bruisin here.

13'

GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Borussia Dortmund (Ronaldo) HISTORY! THE FIRST MAN EVER TO SCORE IN ALL SIX CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAMES! THAT'S NINE GOALS IN TOTAL, AND WHAT A BLINDER THIS IS! HE TAKES THE BALL ON THE CORNER OF THE BOX, SNEAKS A YARD OFF BARTRA, AND CURLS A BEAUTY INTO THE TOP FAR-LEFT CORNER! HE JOINS LIONEL MESSI ON 60 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOALS TOTAL! WHAT A RIDICULOUS HOMO SAPIENS!

12'

Isco did it on purpose, apparently.

11'

Madrid are refusing to allow Dortmund a kick.

9'

GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Borussia Dortmund (Mayoral) Dortmund lose possession and immediately Madrid find Ronaldo on the left touchline. He skips across Barta and with no shot on, clips a clever pass into the box for Isco, who pirouettes looking to bring the ball with him into his stride. It doesn't work out, but does find Mayroal's instead, and he clips a deft finish over the diving Burki for his first Champions League goal. And a well-taken one it is too.

7'

Madrid are probing, knocking the ball side to side in search of gaps. Dortmund, who appear to be playing 3-4-3, rather than Peter Bosz's preferred 4-3-3, are looking sold for now. As I was saying...

5'

Not much going on here, but Philippe Coutinho has scored the aforementioned penalty at Anfield. That'll please Spurs and the Manchester clubs in a funny way, because if Liverpool top the group, there's one more less good second-placed team for them to draw, thus avoiding Bayern and Real.

4'

At Anfield, Liverpool have a penalty for foul on Salah...

3'

Theo finds Ronaldo outside of the box and he immediately lashes a low shot which skips off the turf in front of Burki; he catches at the second attempt.

2'

It's worth noting that Madrid went through as runners-up last season. They coped.

1'

Off we go! For those watching in black and white, Madrid are in white and Dortmund yellow and black.

19:44

Dani Ceballos is on the bench for Madrid. I'd like to see him play, I must say; I hope he's not another Sergio Canales.

19:42

Out they come!

19:36

As for Madrid, they're without both Koos and Kovacic, but it's always a pleasure to enjoy Isco. Kovacic is good too, but Madrid's creation will be mainly on him tonight.

19:32

iIm looking forward to seeing Pulisic tonight, who might just become a star, and also Dahoud, who's started badly at Dortmund but has a lot of talent.

19:29

It's cold in Madrid, apparently.

19:28
19:25
19:20

The law of averages says that it'll be tricky for Madrid to retain this trophy - two in a row is tough enough, let alone three in a row and four in five. On top of that, Ronaldo is now coming down the other side of the hill - he has two league goals so far this season - and there's simply no way of resolving that problem.

19:16

Both these teams have been absolute bile this season. Madrid's domestic title is almost gone already, while Dortmund have been laughably bad, especially at the back. And up front. But no one will much want either when Europe resumes in February - assuming Apoel don't beat Dortmund's result tonight. .

19:12

I call this one "Men in tracksuits and bad trainers, walking."

19:10

This kit is hideous.

19:07

So, plenty of serious talent on the park tonight. The game between these two in Dortmund was probably the best game I watched last season; let's hope for something similar tonight.

19:07
19:06
19:06

Teams, then.

18:59

I know I do! Oh yes!

18:59

Evening all! Who doesn't love a dead rubber!
