FT: Atletico 1-0 Leicester. Griezmann's controversial first-half penalty gives the Spanish side the edge. The Foxes will have mixed emotions after being under the cosh for long spells and they will have to pull off the recovery without Robert Huth (suspended) when they reconvene in the second leg next Tuesday. The dream is still alive.

Leciester almost over the line. They will take the 1-0 loss and see what they can do at the King Power.

Two minutes added.

Koke fires in a shot from the right of the area that is well blocked by Benalouane.

Atletico still probing, but they aren't going gung-ho for a second here. They have big CL know-how keeping out the best sides in the world over two legs.

If it stays at 1-0, Leciester will feel they have a decent chance on a big night on home turf...

Koke's left-wing free kick hits the one-man wall of Mahrez. So wasteful. Simeonoe not impressed!

Benalouane with a big clearance inside his own six-yard box after Juanfran had threatened to find Griezmann for a tap-in.

Atletico still hopeful they can sneak a second before full time.

LATEST: Bayern 1-2 Real. Ronaldo. Bayern down to 10 men too.

The referee races over and sends someone from the Leicester bench to the stand!

Unfamiliar teorritory for the home side to have so much of the ball: Atletico 63% - Leciester 37%.

Agree with this but if you create one chance, you'd surely want Vardy on the end of it.

Correa shoots from long range... well wide.

ATTEMPTS: Atletico 13-6 Leicester.

Almost two! Torres feeds Griezmann on the right. The Frenchman wastes little time firing a low ball across the six-yard box that Correa can't quite reach.

Simpson with a timely interception to deny Atletico once more. The visitors have looked far more solid in this half.

Another corner, another Huth header clear. He wins a free kick and you can hear some cheers in the distance. They are ironic ones from the Foxes faithful. They feel hard done by.

If it stays like this, Leicester will be fuming about that penalty award...

Leicester must keep believing. They just need to remain resilient and create one opening.

Ndidi gets there first and frees Albrighton. He in turn picks out Vardy who bursts into the box, but is thwarted by Filipe Luis.

Another free kick to the home side on the left flank. Griezmann will deliver...

Koke's free kick is headed to safety by Huth. He's been imperious when dealing with the aerial threat.

Ndidi hacks down Torres. Leciester need to be careful. They can't afford to lose another player on a booking for the second leg.

BIG CHANCE! Torres takes a pass in his stride, drifts away from Huth and then slips as he looked set to pull the trigger.

Mahrez goes down after cutting in from the left. He tumbles over Gabi but he was always looking for it.

Griezmann takes the resulting free kick but it's powerfully headed to safety.

YELLOW CARD! Huth is cautioned for hauling back Griezmann. The defender will now miss the second leg. Big blow for the Foxes.

Mahrez getting more involved as the visitors enjoy a good spell. The Algerian jinks in from the left but Godin steps in to slam the door shut.

Fuchs with a long throw from the left. Huth makes a nuisance of himself. Simpson miscues and Huth sees the rebound blocked. Mahrez tries to make something out of it but curves well wide from 25 yards. Better from the Foxes.

All Atletico at the start of this half. Leicester dealing well with a succession of corners.

LATEST: Bayern 1-1 Real Madrid. Ronaldo.

Vardy has been well shackled so far. He's had little to feed on.

Yohan Benalouane booked for a late tackle on Torres as he tried to free Griezmann.

Saul was one of a number of impressive performers for the hosts in the first 45.

Grabbing that away goal will be no mean feat when you look at Atleti's record, mind you.

Can Leicester make more of an impact in the attacking third in this half?

HT: Atletico 1-0 Leicester. Griezmann's controversial penalty separates the sides after Albrighton's challenge on the Frenchman had appeared to take place just outside the box.

Stefan Savic buys a free kick defending a long ball meant for Vardy. Clever play by the Atletico man.

Hard to say which manager will be happier. Atletico have bossed it and have the lead. It's also via a dubious penalty award. Leicester are only 1-0 down but Vardy has been largely isolated and the defence has creaked on a number of occasions.

Important touch by Drinkwater after Griezmann's smart one-two had threatened to sneak him clear in a crowded box.

Albrighton drives well wide from 30 yards.

Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann scores their first goal from the penalty spot

This chap is key to Atletico's magnificent home form in this competition.

CLOSE! Koke lets fly from 25 yards but it swerves inches past the far post.

Fair to say the visitors' flair players have barely had a kick so far.

Atleti back on top now looking very assured right now. Leicester can't afford to concede another before the break.

A real shame for the Foxes. They had survived an early onslaught and had started to ask a few questions themselves before being caught out on the break.

Was it a penalty? first contact looks outside the box...

Griezmann so influential for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Bayern have also scored and lead Real Madrid 1-0.

GOAL! Griezmann dusts himself down and coolly converts the spot kick as he sends Schmeichel the wrong way.

PENALTY TO ATLETI! Albrighton tumbles Griezmann in full flow. Replays showing it appeared to be outside the area.

Mahrez has a go... blocked. Albrighton keeps the attack going but Okazaki can't quite reach his low cross.

STAT: Atlético never lost at home to English side (W5 D5).

Albrighton fires a cross towards Okazaki but it's headed clear by the towering Godin.

Shakespeare will be delighted his side have weathered that early storm. Signs they are settling into the task now.

Lots of love for Griezmann in the Twittersphere already tonight.

Mahrez wins the Foxes a free kick and they launch it high to the left flank. Fuchs drifts a cross towards Vardy that is cleared to Simpson on the other wing. He fires in another delivery but Saul acrobatically volleys to safety.

Benalouane with a fine interception after Carrasco had drifted to the left byline and attempted to cut it back into the path of Torres.

Leicester with some respite. It's a decent spell of possession. It's not going anywhere but it just allows the defence to have a breather.

Gaz is already sweating!

Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres

Saul Niguez given time to line up another long range drive. It's always rising but Leicester need to close these strikes down or they will eventually pay a hefty price.

Leicester rocking at the back. The two Atletico full backs are having a field day getting forward. It bounces about in the Foxes box until Koke's nod down is finally hacked to safety.

Griezmann pulling the strings again. It's worked to Torres on the right who recovers from an untimely slip to cut inside and fire in a tepid shot that Schmeichel easily gathers.

Griezmann fizzes over from 25 yards.

Leicester just can't get out of their own half. Ndidi breaks up the play once more but there's just no space to find a teammate. The wave of red and white will come again.

All Atletico so far.

Atletico Madrid's Belgian midfielder Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (L) vies with Leicester City's Austrian defender Christian Fuchs

Juanfran delivers a peach of the ball in from the right that Torres can't quite get on the end of. The ex-Liverpool and Chelsea man knows that was a real opening, but he was caught slightly on his heels.

Yannick Carrasco slices wide on the volley after Huth had panicked trying to head a deep ball from the left to safety.

Shakespeare well aware that some of his players are walking the disciplinary tightrope tonight. Huth, Wilfred Ndidi, Islam Slimani (sub) and Jamie Vardy would miss the second leg if any of them pick up a caution. Shakespeare said: "We are a very well disciplined as a team, but yes, the players will be reminded about their responsibilities and not to get any stupid cards for things like encroaching. It is something we will talk about with the players."

Atletico are the ones dictating the play as they go against their usual counter attacking style.

To say it's been lively would be an understatement. A cracking start to this encounter.

OFF THE POST! Griezmann feeds Koke who has time to cut back onto his right foot and flash a 25-yard drive that smashes back off Schmeichel's right-hand post.

Back up the other end and Griezmann teases a clever ball into the right channel for Torres who barely stings Schmeichel's palms with a low shot.

But there's that Foxes counter attack. A ball over the top sends Vardy rampaging free. He gets into the left of the area but drills a cross-shot from a narrow angle right across the six-yard box.

Great challenge on the edge of his own area by Ndidi. Atletico with a fast start.

Can Atleti exploit Morgan's absence? Yohan Benalouane partners Robert Huth at the heart of the defence.

KICK OFF! Leicester get this tie up and running.

HISTORY SUGGESTS IT'S A TALL ORDER FOR THE FOXES: Atlético have lost just one home game in the European Cup quarter-finals - EVER. That was a 3-2 loss to Ajax in 1997. Interestingly, current boss Simeone played for Atletico that night.

Elsewhere in the early CL kick off tonight, Dortmund are losing 3-1 at home to Monaco.

DID YOU KNOW? Atlético have not conceded in eight CL knockout games at home. That dates back to March 2014.

Gabi: "They have clearly defined ideas and it is an honour for us to play against them. We are at our best. I think that we have always shown our best side in the Champions League and want this to continue. This match is a chance to advance to another semi-final."

Gabi has experienced two Champions League final defeats with Atletico Madrid

CONTRAST: This is Atletico's ninth appearance in the last eight of this competition, but it is new territory for the East Midlands side. This is only their fourth campaign on Europe - and two of their previous three have been ended by Los Rojiblancos.

FORM: Atletico are unbeaten in their last six, winning four. Leicester have been imperious under Craig Shakespeare - but he lost his first match after winning the first six in all competitions in a thrilling 4-2 defeat at Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Atletico Madrid's French forward Antoine Griezmann (R) scores a goal

No surprises in either line up. Atletico stick with the same side that featured in the 1-1 draw at Real Madrid at the weekend. Leicester bring back the quintet rested in the enthralling 4-2 loss at Everton on Sunday. That means Okazaki, Simpson, Fuchs, Ndidi and Mahrez start. Kasper Schmeichel captains the side in the absence of Wes Morgan.

City's Shinji Okazaki celebrates scoring their first goal with Riyad Mahrez and Danny Simpson

HEAD-TO-HEAD: The sides have met on four previous occasions with Atletico prevailing in two ties. The Spanish outfit ran out 4-1 winners in the first round of the UEFA Cup back in 1997. Ian Marshall netted the Foxes' solitary strike in the first leg in Spain. It was a similar story in 1961 as Los Rojiblancos triumphed 3-1 on aggregate at the same stage of the Cup Winners' Cup.

Steve Guppy, right, celebrated with goalscorer Ian Marshall in Leicester's 2-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid in 1997

Craig Shakespeare: "When you look at the DNA of our team, the type of characters, the journeys everyone has been on - lower leagues and rejection - these are the kind of nights, when you are playing League Two and watching Champions League on TV, you were working for. You can't help be inspired, the big games, the pressure games, is what you play for."

Craig Shakespeare and Kasper Schmeichel face reporters ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals

Diego Simeone: "I see a hard-fought qualifier in both legs. It will probably be decided in the second leg. When Mahrez and Vardy have the ball, they have a very direct play. They play very intensely and try to favour their players’ characteristics, which has brought them here."

Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid
