Britain’s Olympic bronze-medallist middleweight Anthony Ogogo has signed his first professional contract with Golden Boy Promotions.

The 24-year-old ended months of speculation over whether he would make the leap into pro surroundings following his semi-final performance at London 2012, which included a shocking upset of Ukrainian top seed Ievgen Khytrov.

The Lowestoft-born former Big Brother star, who once had a trial with Norwich City football club, also won a European silver earlier this year, as well as Commonwealth silver in 2010 and a Junior Olympic gold back in 2004.

Despite being keen on Rio 2016, Ogogo has decided to sign pro terms and opted for the American company over Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

"Anthony Ogogo has everything you look for in a boxer," said Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer.

"He can fight, he has style and charisma and he has amazing crossover potential.

"I have no doubt that Anthony has the skills in the ring and the personality outside of it to make him a global boxing star.

"We are proud to have him on our team and this is just the first step in our growing commitment to British boxing."

GB Boxing Performance Director Rob McCracken added: "It has been very good working with Anthony over the last three years and he did extremely well to win a medal at the 2012 Games.

"It is disappointing for us that Anthony has decided his future lies away from the GB Boxing squad but he departs with our best regards and we wish him every success in his future career."

Ogogo hopes to make his debut early in the new year.
