Germany's Laura Dahlmeier won gold in the women's 7.5km sprint at the second IBU World Cup Biathlon of the season in Pokljuka.

Dahlmeier sealed her spot on the top step of the podium in a time of 19:51.7, to finish just ahead of Justine Braisaz.

Braisaz, of France, finished 3.5 seconds back to record her first individual World Cup podium position, with Norway's Marte Olsbu taking third after all three women shot clean.

Braisaz had looked to be heading for the win until Dahlmeier picked up the speed in the final loop.

Dahlmeier said: "Some really strong athletes started late, and I was not sure of my win until after the last athlete was at the finish line."

"I am really happy about the race today," added Braisaz. "I didn't believe my coaches when they told me I was in the lead.

"Before the competition, I didn't want to leave my bed this morning, I didn't feel confident."
