Roger Federer is coasting towards a record eighth Wimbledon title at the age of 35 after winning the first two sets 6-3 6-1 against Croatian Marin Cilic in only 61 minutes.

Cilic needed a medical time-out at the end of the second set as he appeared to be struggling with injury to his left foot and his emotions in one of the most one-sided finals of recent years.

The 18-times Grand Slam winner Federer, level with Britain's William Renshaw and American Pete Sampras on a joint record seven Wimbledon titles, had entered the final as the clear favourite, having not dropped a set in entire the tournament.

Should he triumph, Federer, who turns 36 next month, will become the oldest winner of the Challenge Cup since tennis turned professional in 1968.
