GAME, SET AND MATCH! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 3-6 OSTAPENKO. Jelena Ostapenko becomes the first Latvian to reach Grand Slam final after an epic victory over the No.30 seed. The world number 47 lashes a crosscourt winner on her second match point to break again and secure a fairytale success in two hours and 25 minutes. She's the first first unseeded player to reach the French Open final since 1983 as her power proved too much for Bacsinszky, who fought hard to stay in it for long periods. Ostapenko will now meet either Pliskova or Halep in Saturday's final. hat a way to celebrate your 20th birthday!

Jelena Ostapenko (Roland-Garros 2017)
-

BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 3-5 OSTAPENKO. A huge, huge hold for the 20-year-old hopeful. Bacsinszky has hung on by playing safe - but she hits too loosely throughout this one, lobbing way long in the final rally to hand Ostapenko a love hold. The world no. 47 is one game away from the final...

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 3-4 OSTAPENKO. A sweeping forehand winner seals yet another break as Jelena bounces back, pouncing on the nervy serving of Bacsinszky to snatch the initiative once more. You'd usually expect the Latvian starlet to go on and win it from here, but this has not been your average match. There could yet be more twists and turns ahead!

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 3-3 OSTAPENKO. Jelena clearly gutted. She was a point away from 4-1 and a double break - but now it's all square. A third ace of the match put the Latvian 30-15 up, but Timea's defence keeps asking her to play one more shot and it proves costly. At 30-40 the Swiss springs forward with a raking crosscourt backhand and it proves too hot to handle.

-

BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 2-3 OSTAPENKO. Timea is still in there fighting - just! The Swiss comes under fire but stays in touch with a hold from deuce. If Ostapenko tightens up or suffers another error-strewn lull, she will be ready to pounce.

VIDEO: Watch how Jelena Ostapenko holds her nerve to win the first-set tiebreak.

It's like a mini battle between good Ostapenko and bad Ostapenko.

BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 1-3 OSTAPENKO. It's never dull with Ostapenko. She really is a star in the making. The Latvian battles back from 15-30 and then rows with the chair umpire over a forehand into the tramlines that would have sealed it. She struggles to finish it off from deuce before finally getting it done at the sixth time of asking. It's the longest game of the match lasting over eight minutes and could be one of the most significant as the Latvian consolidates.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 1-2 OSTAPENKO. 'C'mon!!!!' That is the cry of delight from Ostapenko as she lifts herself once more to scythe through the Bacsinszky serve once again. How much would she love to dig out a big hold right now?

Indeed.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 1-1 OSTAPENKO. If more consistency comes with experience, Ostapenko is going to be some player. Unfortunately it's not one of her assets right now. From the sublime to the sloppy, she drops serve to love. Timea breaks right back and this match remains too tough to call.

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 0-1 OSTAPENKO. A wonderful response from the 20-year-old starlet. The forehand wand begins to paint the lines once more and Bacsinszky can't find the defence this time around.

Can Ostapenko channel her emotions back in the right direction? The decider is about to get underway with Bacsinszky to serve...

Jelena left to think over what just happened as Timea leaves the court for a brief break.

-

SET! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 6-3 OSTAPENKO. All square and worrying times for the Ostapenko camp. The Latvian was clearly rattled by her shocking errors in the previous game. She simply fell apart trying to pose the serve-out question of Bacsinszky, hitting a double fault on the second of two set points. We are heading into a decider!

Has Jelena's focus been shaken?

BACSINSZKY 6-7 5-3 OSTAPENKO. A fifth ace, some truly outstanding defence and untimely errors from her attacking opponent allow Bacsinszky to come through a severely testing service game from deuce to consolidate her break. She's one away from taking this to a decider. Some real survival instincts from the Swiss who just kept running and asking the underdog to hit one more shot. Ostapenko will be furious with herself for some of the glaring misses from what seemed like inevitable winning positions.

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 4-3 OSTAPENKO. How significant could that be? Ostapenko looks in the zone at 40-0 but allows the Swiss back in it. A double fault denies the Latvian another chance to get over the line, and she bounces her racket in frustration before cracking a tight shot into the net. Now, can Timea back up the break?

BACSINSZKY 6-7 3-3 OSTAPENKO. Bacsinszky is hanging in there. She's done well to stay in it under the barrage of winners and if the errors start mounting up for the Latvian, she wants to be ready to pounce.

BACSINSZKY 6-7 2-3 OSTAPENKO. Jelena benefits from a lucky net cord on the concluding point of another simple hold, but it's just reward for sticking to her attacking instincts.

BACSINSZKY 6-7 2-2 OSTAPENKO. The inconsistency of the 20-year-old flares again. Some poor errors hand Bacsinszky some cheap points as she eases to a hold to 15.

-

BACSINSZKY 6-7 1-2 OSTAPENKO. Wow. Ostapenko blasts her way through a love hold. It's over in the blink of an eye. If she can keep her error count under reasonable control her power will surely be the key to victory here.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 1-1 OSTAPENKO. New set, same old pattern. Timea can't back up the break, serving up a double fault at deuce to offer her opponent the chance she takes gleefully with some ferocious and unreturnable groundstrokes.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 1-0 OSTAPENKO. The perfect response from the No.30 seed. She comes out all guns blazing and takes advantage of Ostapenko's timid second serve to snatch an immediate break at the start of the second set.

It'll come down to Ostapenko's ratio of winners to unforced errors.

-

SET! - BACSINSZKY 6-7 OSTAPENKO. Jelena puts a run of blockbusting winners together to snare three set points. She rushes the first but produces a venomous first serve on the next that she puts away with a drive volley at the net. After 63 minutes of rollercoaster tennis, the world No.47 has the advantage with a 7-4 success in the TB. Can she become the first unseeded player to reach the Roland Garros final since 1983?

Fact/stat of the day!

TB LATEST: It's 3-3 at the changeover as the breaker follows the same pattern of the set overall.

TIE BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-6 OSTAPENKO. Fittingly, a topsy-turvy set goes to the breaker as Timea responds by demolishing her opponent's suspect second serve. The Swiss gets three bites of the cherry and takes it on the second when Ostapenko fizzes a tight backhand into the net.

Timea Bacsinszky - Roland-Garros 2017
-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 5-6 OSTAPENKO. Another roar of delight from the Latvian. She's dominating the rallies, but producing some terrible errors to give Timea hope. The Swiss saves one BP with a lob she had no right to pull off before Jelena's fires a ripping winner down the line that proves too good. The underdog will now serve for the opening set.

BACSINSZKY 5-5 OSTAPENKO. A big 'C'mon!' from Jelena. She looks on the brink of disappointment at 15-30, but finds some big shots when she needs them most to pull off the recovery and move level.

BACSINSZKY 5-4 OSTAPENKO. A third ace of the contest sees Timea notch up one of her easiest service games of the match. She applies the scoreboard pressure; Ostapenko must now hold to stay in the set.

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 4-4 OSTAPENKO. The delay hasn't done Ostapenko any favours. Her momentum was disrupted and she was very flat, hitting poor shots that effectively handed the break back to the No.30 seed.

A heavy bandage being applied to Timea's right leg above the kneecap. She looks ready to continue, which is good news!

Medical timeout: A delay to the proceedings as Bacsinszky receives treatment on her right knee.

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 3-4 OSTAPENKO. The world number 47 corks a backhand winner down the line to edge in front on the second of two break points. Timea survived an onslaught on her last service game, but couldn't find the defence to deal with the power of her younger opponent on this occasion. If the Latvian's attempted winners continue to land in more often than not, the Swiss could be in for much more than a tricky afternoon.

-

BACSINSZKY 3-3 OSTAPENKO. When the big first serves land in, Ostapenko looks a real force. She gets two in a row from deuce to pull off an impressive recovery from deuce after heavy hitting off both flanks had denied Bacsinszky from double break point.

-
Jelena Ostapenko

BACSINSZKY 3-2 OSTAPENKO. More ferocious hitting from the youngster. She continues to attack but the unforced error count is creeping up too. Bacsinszky saves a BP and eventually comes through unscathed.

BACSINSZKY 2-2 OSTAPENKO. The occasional propensity to swing wildly is causing Ostapenko some issues of her own making. It leads to another break point which she saves with the type of sublime line-painting winner that has been a feature of her run to the last four. The Latvian then gets lucky as Bacsinszky's radar malfunctions with a thumping return just long, allowing her to move level. An intriguing match thus far.

-

Dozens of tennis journalists nod in approval...

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 2-1 OSTAPENKO. Jelena bites straight back! Her expression at being broken was one of annoyance rather than trepidation, and she responded in superb fashion by going after the suspect Bacsinszky serve. The Swiss feels the heat and drives long of the baseline to allow the Latvian on the board.

-

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 2-0 OSTAPENKO. 'No fear' tennis from the 20-year-old underdog, but in the end it proves in vain. It's a real mixed bag as she fights back from 0-30 to lead before being put under pressure from deuce. She saves a first break point with a thumping serve but then wildly fires a crosscourt attempt wide on the second, after easily reaching a weak dropshot from Bacsinszky.

-
-

BACSINSZKY 1-0 OSTAPENKO. A confident start from Bacsinszky. This is her second semi final at Roland Garros and its an assured service game. She's spoken of how she feels at home here and it showed then with plenty of depth and smart tactics in the rallies.
