Shepardson impresses in Japan

Luke Shepardson posted the highest single-wave score as the round of 96 came to a close on day two of the Billabong Pro Tahara in Japan.

The Hawaiian teenager managed a 7.17 in clear, warm conditions in Aichi Prefecture.

Soli Bailey of Australia was second on the day (7.00), with compatriot Thomas Woods third (6.67).

Bailey had the highest combined score of 13.33, with Woods on 12.74.
