Doherty wins on final day of qualifiers

Former world champion Ken Doherty was among the winners on the final day of the International Championship qualifiers in Sheffield.

Doherty outclassed China’s Liu Chuang with a 6-3 victory in the morning session to book a place at October’s brand new ranking event in Chengdu.

During the day Marco Fu, Jamie Cope, Ryan Day and Dominic Dale also sealed tickets on the plane to China, while Ali Carter and Peter Ebdon progressed from the evening session.

The International Championship has the highest level of prize money ever at a tournament in China. The winner will receive £125,000.
