History will be made in the coming days as Team GB’s football stars play a high profile friendly against Brazil as they make their final preparations for London 2012.
Britain have not competed in the football finals of the Olympics since 1960, or indeed in any Olympic competition since a 1971 failed qualifying effort for the Munich ’72 games. Fans are therefore highly excited to see the likes of captain Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy, Tom Cleverly, Aaron Ramsey and Micah Richards going for gold this summer.
The players will be in action in a friendly against a strong Brazil team in Middlesbrough on Friday 20th July, with kick-off taking place at 7.45pm. The South American side could feature the likes of world superstar Neymar, new Paris Saint-Germain purchase Thiago Silva and the much coveted Hulk.
The game, which will be broadcast live on BBC One, is part of a double-header, with the action commencing earlier in the afternoon as Hope Powell's GB women face Sweden at 4pm.
Both matches will be accessible for one price and supporters can purchase tickets online via www.mfc.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk, or via phone on 0844 499 1234. Tickets are reasonably priced and start from £20 for adults, £15 for over 65s and £10 for U16s.
In the Olympic competition proper the Team GB men take on UAE, Uruguay and Senegal in their group matches, with their opening game on 26th July against Senegal at Old Trafford. Tickets are still available for that game via www.tickets.london2012.com.
Meanwhile, for fans looking to get into the Olympic mood this week in Nottingham a friendly match between Japan and Mexico is set to take place at the City Ground on Saturday 21st July, with tickets available via www.nffcretail.com.
