The 2.299-mile Saxony track has been grand prix motorcycle racing's German base since 1998. Prior to that, the event had switched between the Nurburgring and Hockenheim.

MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta said he was confident the Sachsenring remained the best German venue for the series.

"We think that Sachsering is the best-equipped circuit to host the German GP in the future," he said. "We also welcome the opportunities the parties involved have given us to reach so many fans of two-wheel racing. This deal is very much in the interest of motorcycling."

This year's German GP takes place next weekend, and will feature a home rider in the premier class for the first time since 2007, with reigning Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl in his rookie MotoGP season with LCR Honda.
