Three-time Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin is determined to give Valegro a fitting send off after it was revealed that the London International Horse Show would be the equine star's final outing before retirement.

Dujardin and horse Valegro have proved to be one of the most successful dressage partnerships of recent years with the pair having won multiple titles at Olympic, World and European level.

The most recent of those came this summer in Rio as Dujardin defended the individual dressage Olympic title she won at London 2012. A silver in the team dressage was also forthcoming in Brazil, taking the tally of Olympic medals won together to four following double gold in London.

Great Britain's most successful equestrian rider had spoken in the aftermath of the Games about retirement coming sooner rather than later for Valegro.

And now it has been confirmed, with Valegro due to be officially retired from competition at Olympia in the Grand Hall on Wednesday December 14 following the FEI World Cup Dressage Freestyle competition.

Dujardin said: "Valegro is a once in a lifetime horse and owes us nothing. I can't wait to take him to Olympia and give him the send-off he deserves."

Carl Hester, who will also be appearing alongside Valegro said: "Valegro has done it all and we want him to go out in style!

"What better place than at Olympia – he loves the arena and being so close to the crowd. It is where he and Charlotte broke the world record in 2014 and it is the perfect place for our loyal British fans to say their farewell."
