Thanks for joining me for this session, and be sure to follow free practice two right here from 09:30 UK time... In the meantime, check out the

0'

Lewis Hamilton posts the fastest lap! The track finally clears with the yellow flag lifted to enable Hamilton to complete his final lap, and it is 1:26.836 as he pips Vettel with Webber third fastest ahead of Button and Schumacher!

1'

We are still under the yellow flag as Hamilton backs off a good looking lap, but he has one last effort to squeeze in after the flag has been lifted...

2'

Buemi goes ninth fastest, while Massa consolidates sixth. The Williams engine is an old one, and that is confirmation.

3'

Maldonado parks his car to the side of the final straight, and the action continues with Perez going off the track on turn six after running wide.

4'

Ah, the yellow flag is out again! This time it is Maldonado who encounters engine trouble, and copious amounts of smoke pour out of the back of the car.

6'

Webber's time of 1:27.428 remains the second quickest as Alguersuari continues to bemoan the damage to his car.

8'

So Vettel's 1:27.416 is the time top of the sheet right now as the marshals go to work...

10'

The yellow flag is out once more as Alguersuari veers off at turn nine, and he's damaged the rear end of his Toro Rosso.

12'

Massa catches the dirt on the inside of turn six, and he gets himself into a real muddle as he effectively aborts an attempted fast lap.

14'

Webber is caught up in a lot of untimely traffic as he looks set to pip Vettel's leading time but is unable to convert.

16'

The top three are covered by just 0.099 seconds, and this session is very finely poised.

18'

Webber goes fastest with a 1:27.428, before Vettel steams to the top of the timesheet with a 1:27.416.

20'

Vettel is now second quickest on the soft tyres with a 1:28.203, and Schumacher improves to consolidate fifth.

22'

Vettel goes fourth quickest with the fastest final sector time, and he's looking pretty ominous already.

24'

Hamilton is dominating the session right now, while Massa goes fifth quickest ahead of Webber.

26'

Hamilton pips his team-mate Button with a 1:27.515, and both McLaren drivers are looking very sprightly now on the softs.

28'

Button goes fastest with a 1:28.501, and he is also on the soft tyres as he and Hamilton make their marks.

30'

Hamilton goes second quickest on the soft tyres, and he's starting to look very good as he settles into the session.

32'

Hamilton is now on the soft tyres, but he is obstructed by Glock in front of him and has to slow down considerably through turns 10 and 11.

34'

There is no yellow flag as Alonso was on a different part of the track to the actual Grand Prix circuit itself, and he watches the big screen replay!

36'

There are real problems for Alonso and Ferrari as he stops on the track on the inside of turn 10, and he climbs out of his car looking very peeved.

38'

It seems that every driver has a 'special' helmet today - Barrichello's is white with blue and red vertical stripes.

40'

Schumacher improves to a 1:28.656, while Massa is the latest driver to veer wide at turn six.

42'

Vettel is currently on the option tyre, for those asking (which is the harder compound because Pirelli want the teams to be running on softs more often.

44'

Button is the first man under the 1:30 barrier as he posts a 1:29.694 as he steps up the intensity.

46'

Quite astonishingly, much of the 'grass' on this circuit is actually dirt spray-painted green. Who says Formula 1 is not a 'green' sport.

48'

Button goes quickest now with a 1:30.794, and we've already seen laptimes drop by 22 seconds in this session!

50'

Webber goes fifth quickest with a fast lap, but he is still three seconds off the pace with work to do.

52'

Senna runs wide at turn six, avoiding Button in the process, while Chandhok improves again with a 1:31.436.

54'

Ramil thinks this race will be boring because the Championship is already decided. There are lots of valuable points and placements to fight for and rest assured every team has a lot at stake. Also, early indications are that this circuit will cause far from boring racing!

56'

The drivers are really struggling with the excessive dust on the circuit, and it is hampering their progress and causing slippy conditions.

58'

Rosberg goes second with a 1:37.116, but that is almost 2.5 seconds slower than Schumacher's best time.

60'

Schumacher improves to a 1:35.275, while Rosberg looks to be posting a pretty quick lap.

62'

Ricciardo improves to post a 1:39.835, while Kobayashi runs wide at turn six but manages to continue without too much fuss.

64'

Schumacher goes quickest with a 1:39.835, while Ricciardo completes his first lap in 1:43.177.

66'

Hamilton is sporting a very interesting Bob Marley-inspired helmet this weekend, and he runs wide at turn nine as he lacks grip on the track.

68'

Karthikeyan pips Chandhok's time with a 1:45.906, and that is over six seconds quicker. How much can he shave off again with his second flying lap, one wonders?

70'

None of the drivers appear particularly keen to get out on the track with the dust continuing to complicate matters, and reports are that it is pretty slippy.

72'

Nico Rosberg joins Vettel out on the track, and it is hard to emphasise just how dusty the circuit is!

74'

Sebastian Vettel heads out for his first taster of Buddh, and his team watch on excitedly.

76'

The track falls incredibly quiet again as the drivers complete their installation laps, and it's a subdued atmosphere.

78'

Okay, we have action once more with the track finally clear, and Jenson Button heads straight out.

80'

In terms of the conditions for this free practice one, the temperature is around 30 degrees and it is very, very dusty with some water still on the start/finish straight due to the officials washing the track earlier.

82'

Chandhok managed to pass the dog without any undue drama, and the only other drivers on track at the time were Massa, Webber, Rosberg and Hamilton. Will this be a constant aspect of this weekend's racing?

84'

We have a red flag because of a dog on the circuit, and this is expected to be a fairly prominent feature of racing in India throughout!

86'

Chandhok's time is 1:52.148 as he tops the timesheets early on, and there are no changes with the drivers apart from his replacing Kovalainen.

88'

Chandhok completes the first timed lap, while Sutil pits almost immediately. Felipe Massa wears the number 58 on his helmet in tribute for Marco Simoncelli also.

90'

The session is underway, and Adrian Sutil's Force India is the first car on the track as Chandhok swiftly joins him!

Teething problems were evident at India's new Buddh International circuit as the drivers arrived on Thursday but F1 boss supremo Bernie Ecclestone declared himself satisfied with the venue. "Super. The track is super," commercial supremo Ecclestone said. "They did everything we wanted them to do within, what, two or three years of reaching the agreement," continued the Briton. "It took Silverstone 25 years, so I think they've done very well."

The Indian Grand Prix is the latest in a long line of new venues on the F1 calendar - but can the new arrival succeed where others have seemingly failed and create a new audience for the sport? That is the question posed by our own inimitable

-

This Grand Prix weekend has been a long time in the making for India. There has been a lot of uncertainty with the date moved and then moved back to its original time following the Bahrain problems of earlier in the year. But we should have a cracking weekend in New Delhi!
