21:38

So Portugal keep on the tail of Switzerland, though this was not much to watch. and they were almost made to pay for sitting on a lead - they should've been made to pay - but Hungary got what they deserved for their total lack of zest, enterprise and wit.

So, thanks for your company; night!

21:38

Full-time: Hungary 0-1 Portugal

90+3'

At last! The free-kick! Up comes Gulasci, and Dsudzsak has the ball, 30n yards out, near the right touchline. He curls in a perfect ball! In the middle of the box, Fiola has a free header! But he can only glance a header into the ground, and the ball bounces up for Rui Partricio to snatch easily.

90'

There shall be three added minutes. Three too many.

90'

Ronaldo, back to his man, flicks the ball between his own legs as Fiola lumbers through him; he retaliates with a gentle kick. Both are booked, and Fiola will miss Hungary's next match.

89'

Moutinho finds Eliseu down the left, and he crosses low - into the arms of Gulasci.

88'

Hungary's inability to even win a free-kick on halfway to hammer into the box is quite something/

87'
86'

Final change for Portugal: Quaresma replaces Andre Silva.

83'

Bernardo finds space down the right and clips the back into the box, where Pinter runs into it, diverting it to Ronaldo. He draws back his boot to smash home the record, only for Fiola to throw himself in the road, deflecting the ball behind for a corner which comes to nothing.

82'

Bernardo pulls down Dsudzsak, who applauds the ref's award of a free-kick like he's been victimised all night. This effrontery earns him a booking, and with it a suspension. Played, mate.

81'

Hungary just can't get at Portugal, but perhaps they'll have themselves a set-piece before full-time/ That's what it'll take.

81'
79'

Mario gets away down the left and cuts inside to snap a low cross into the path of Bernardo and Silva, but Kadar did very well indeed to slide in and take the ball away from them.

78'

Hungary might at least make an effort to score - they've got some big chaps, STICK IT IN THE MIXAH!

76'

Varga is coming on for Hungary, replacing Loverencsics.

74'

Portugal are taking 1-0, so we'll need to find our kicks elsewhere. Romelu Lukaku has scored yet again, so Belgium now lead in Greece. France are still drawing with Luxembourg, and still have Kante on the pitch. Only Deschamps.

72'

Bernardo is getting on the ball a bit, but to no avail thus far.

70'

Not much going down at the moment.

67'

another change for Hungary: Pinter replaces Elek.

64'

I wonder if, before or at the World cup, Bernardo will come into this team. On the one hand, I grasp the logic of keeping things tight because Ronaldo; on the other, Bernardo is bloody good.

63'

Change for Portugal: Bernardo Silva replaces Gelson Martins.

61'

Change for Hungary: the absolute shtarker that is Bode replaces Eppel. I don't think this will lead to a more cultured approach from Hungary.

59'

Dsuddzsak bundles down the left and Cedric comes across to challenge. Their shoulders meet, down goes the attacker, and up go the arms. the ref is having no such thing.

58'

Elsewhere in Group B, Switzerland lead Latvia 3-0 - but they're still miles behind Portugal on goal difference, so if Portugal win their remaining games they qualify automatically.

58'

No.

56'

Portugal knock the ball around for a bit, probing. They'll score again at some point.

55'

Elsewhere, France are being held at home by Luxembourg. Good old Water-Carrier Deschamps.

54'

That Ronaldo cross just gets better each time you see it. Andre Silva could've kissed the ball home.

52'

How's your Portuguese coming along?

50'

Immediately, Hungary go down the other end and Loverencsics' cross hits Eppel, ricocheting onto the laces of Patkai, who lashes just wide from 10 yards. Huge chance.

48'

GOAL! Hungary 0-1 Portugal (Andre Silva) Bit of nice one touch stuff down the left, Moutinho and Joao Mario exchanging passes and setting Ronaldo away. His cross, lifted just as the challenge comes in and aimed to the back post, is perfection, and Andre Silva just about sticks his header away, slightly feart of getting nobbled by the defender.

47'

Portugal need to move the ball faster than in the first half, though taking advantage of the extra man won't be that easy - Hungary still have four at the back and four in midfield, they're just a man shy up front.

46'

Off we go again.

20:35

Portugal have played reasonably well without creating much, while Hungary's tactic of being as violent as possible achieved qualified success. I imagine class will tell eventually.

20:34

Half-time: Hungary 0-0 Portugal

45+3'

Andre Silva leaps for a high ball, lands, and Leverencsics imparts studs to back of knee, wittingly or otherwise. Silva experiences discomfort.

45+2'

Korhut fouls Mario 20 yards from goal, right of centre, and Elek is booked for mouth. Ronaldo shoots straight into the wall.

45'

There shall be three added minutes.

45'

Lovely from Portugal, Gelson Martins moving down the right and moving the ball into Ronaldo who immediately transfers to Joao Mario who immediately transfers to Andre Silva - that's the overload. But rather than shoot first time, he takes a touch, forcing himself wide and allowing defenders to block his route to goal. The shot is squeezed wide.

44'

Eliseu finds himself in space 35 yards from goal, so opts to lash a pathetic shot miles wide. His team-mates are not impressed.

44'
42'

Perhaps Portugal could get some pace on the outside and shove Joao Mario infield. His ability in tight spaces might be useful, and with two strikers in the box, some crosses might be too.

40'

Townsend reckons Portugal need to be careful because at any opportunity the Hungarians will be rolling around on the floor encouraging the ref to even things up. BINGO!

38'

it seems that Dsudzsak brought up an arm to protect the ball and Cedric managed to take yet another elbow to the face. He's now off receiving treatment.

36'

It won't help them in the long term, but for now that red card has interfered with Portugal's momentum. And there's Loverencsics coming in off the right to gather a ball chipped into the box by Dsudzsak. He moves inside Eliseu and opens his body to shot, but gets underneath it to send it high.

34'
33'

Pepe, who'd taken a breather, jogs back on with a plaster on his face.

30'

RED CARD PRISKIN! He contests a high ball with Pepe - or he's about to - but instead chucks out an elbow and sends yerman directly to the ground. I think he may have tried a subsequent stamp too, but either way, that was very well earned.

29'

Not sure Moutinho is checking Tiwwter at the moment, he's a bit busy being por falta sobred.

29'

Coentrao has a thigh injury, and is replaced by Eliseu.

27'

Hungary's delivery from dead balls has been very disappointing so far.

25'

After a fair spell for Hungary, Portugal are back in charge and look like they'll score shortly.

23'

Portugal put a ball into the box and it breaks to Moutinho just outside it; he leans right and curls a low shot left; Fiola blocks it, possibly with an arm. But before anyone can appeal, Andre Silva nabs the loose ball and looks to round Gulasci, who challenges at his feet; Silva could go down, and might well have earned a penalty if he had. But he doesn't and the opportunity goes.

22'

Ronaldo moves across the face of the box from left to centre and drills a low shot which Guzmics blocks very well.

20'

Moutinho tries to sneak up behind Patkai who espies his arrival, has a look and brings up an elbow, running his man's throat directly into it. Somehow the ref apprises this as a yellow card not a red card. Er, alright, m8.

20'

I think I'm learning about eight different languages due to tweets of this ilk.

18'

Loverencsics finds Priskin down the right, and he quickly cuts back a cross towards the penalty spot; Danilo does very well to reach the ball first and hump it clear.

17'

Hungary are growing into this, Elek gliding through midfield and spreading wide to Korhut. He finds Dsudzsak, who pops back inside and drags a tame shot that bobbles wide.

15'

Switzerland have taken the lead in Latvia. Portugal will have expected that, and everything is building to their next meeting in the final round of games; that's on 10 October.

13'

Portugal look a supremely confident outfit who know exactly what they're doing; it's funny how that happens, because they didn't look especially like that in France, and then they won the thing. The same happened with France in the 1998 World Cup; they were much better after they won it than while winning it.

12'

Priskin finds a smidge of space down the right and whips in a cross; Danilo dives to head clear.

11'
7'

Behind Gulasci's goal, the home fans are bouncing away, and Joao Mario tosses in a cross which Kadar heads behind. this time the corner is cleared to Joao Mario, and Kadar slides in to block behind for another. Moutinho takes it short to Coentrao, takes the return, and whips into the box where Ronaldo stoops in front of his man and guides a fine effort just wide. His eminence is not impressed with his behaviour.

5'

Ronaldo gets on the ball at inside-left and veers inside, surveying his passing options. Not really; he unleashes a zetz that Gulasci is relieved to poke over the top. Great effort; the corner comes to nowt.

3'

Probably worth noting that both sides are playing 4-4-2, not often we get a derby of that ilk. And Portugal field Danilo in central midfield; now I get why Guardiola signed him. Yes, I know it's a different Danilo.

3'
2'

Nowt to do with this, but still.

1'

Andy Townsend reckons the first goal is crucial. More news as I get it.

1'

Off we go!

19:45
19:42

Anthems. Portugal's is an underrated banger, Hungary's a uniformly hand-on-heart affair.

19:40

Out come the teams!

19:39

Oh, and Ronaldo has three games left in which to make the record his own.

19:36

Ronaldo has 14 goals in qualifying so far, the same number that Predrag Mijatovic managed for Yugoslavia prior to France 198. And whereas seven of Mijatovic's tally came in a play-off - against Hungary - Ronaldo hasn't required those extra games, and has notched at least once in each appaearance.

19:34

Last time out - so on Friday night - Portugal beat the Faroes 5-1 with old Ronaldo contributing a hat-trick; Hungary beat Latvia 3-1.

19:32

"He just keeps smashing all records what are put in front of him." Yes, IITV4 have gone for Tim Sherwood in the studio.

19:24

Let's be real: Hungary are not a good side. They recently lost to Andorra, and there's really nothing more to say about that. Portugal, on the other hand, were beaten in the first qualifier away in Switzerland, a game for which they had neither Ronaldo nor Joao Mario, and have won all six since. In theory, this will not be close.

19:20
19:15
19:10
19:09

TEAMS!

19:05

These two teams are in third and second place respectively, but Portugal are eight points clear of Hungary and chasing Switzerland, three points clear of them. Hungary are only two clear of Faroe Islands, which tells you just how good Andorra and Latvia, who are below Faroe Islands, must be.

19:00

Evening all, and welcome to Hungary v Portugal in World Cup qualifying Group B!
