Dundee United are beset with injury problems as they prepare to host local rivals Dundee for their first competitive derby in seven years on Sunday.

Manager Peter Houston will wait as late as possible before making a decision on whether or not any of Johnny Russell (groin), Sean Dillon (groin), Gary Mackay-Steven (knee), and Gavin Gunning (back) can play in the clash at Tannadice.

With Dundee still seeking their first league goal of the season after two games of the new campaign, manager Barry Smith could hand new signing Martin Boyle his debut for the club.

However, midfield duo Kevin McBride and Nicky riley plus striker Carl Finnigan will all efinitely miss out through injury.

The last time these two sides met at Tannadice in league fixtures was the 2004/05 season. In that campaign, Dundee beat their local rivals 2-1 and then drew 2-2 in the second corresponding fixture of the term.
