Norwich City have rejected a transfer request from striker Grant Holt, according to reports.

Various sources claim that he 31-year-old had asked to leave Carrow Road less than a week after the club's first season back in the Premier League ended in a comfortable mid-table finish, and that the Canaries have turned his request down.

Journeyman striker Holt made a big impact on the Premier League in his first season in the top flight, scoring 15 goals in the competition as Paul Lambert's team defied expectations by easily averting a relegation battle. That haul made him the second-highest English goal scorer of the season, behind only Wayne Rooney, and saw him win the club's the player of the year award for the third successive season.

There was speculation that the big centre-forward, whose former clubs include Shrewsbury Town, Nottingham Forest and Rochdale, might be a surprise call-up to England for this summer's European Championships.

However, new England manager Roy Hodgson did not select him, instead picking Danny Welbeck, Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe as well as Rooney.
