This will be remembered as the game Torres came back to life for Atletico Madrid. There were signs of his best against Barcelona during the week, but he was the main man for the capital club this evening, grabbing both goals and leading their line. Leganes were second best by quite some distance. At no point did they look like taking something from this game.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Atletico Madrid 2-0 Leganes.
Just two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Carrasco takes an age lining up the freekick on the edge of the Leganes penalty area, but he can only smash his strike straight into the wall. Not how the Belgian pictured it.
Correa has also made a real difference since coming on. The Argentine provides an effective link between the midfield and attack. Could he also play against Barcelona?
This has been like watching Torres back to his best. He has been everywhere, tracking back but also making darting runs in behind the opposition defence. And he's been clinical.
Attention will turn to the Copa del Rey semi final second leg against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night. Surely Torres has played his way into the starting lineup?
Atletico Madrid are now coasting to three points now. The tempo and intensity has been completely sucked out of the match. Although that will suit the home side. They made it that way.
There's less than 10 minutes for Torres to get his hat trick and he looks desperate for it. That would be a real landmark moment for him, especially at this stage of his Atletico career.
He should have done better with that, to be honest. Torres was in a good position to get a shot away, but he leaned back and fired over the target. Although it migh have taken a deflection.
JUST PAST THE POST! That was close to a third Atletico Madrid goal. Correa moved the ball on to his left foot and struck the ball towards goal, but it flashed just past the far post.
What does that change saw to Gameiro? The French striker has been left on the bench as Vrsaljko comes on to replace Griezmann for the final 15 minutes of this match.
- OffAntoine GriezmannAtlético Madrid
- OnŠime VrsaljkoAtlético Madrid
This change was to be expected. Griezmann comes off and will be wrapped in cotton wool for the midweek Copa match at the Camp Nou.
That was a decent cross into the area from the right wing, but neither Griezman not Correa could make a connection in the penalty area. If only they were both a couple feet taller.
And again, there's another tackle from Torres inside the Leganes half, forcing them into a mistake. Where has he found this energy from? He's a player who thrives on confidence.
If he were to keep playing like this you would have to say that Atletico Madrid might have their hand forced into giving Torres another contract. Just like last season.
This is remarkable. Torres is chasing down everything all over the pitch. He's forcing Leganes into mistakes while also providing Atletico Madrid with an outlet in behind. So impressive.
Atletico Madrid are now sitting back and inviting pressure on top of themselves. The away side are seeing plenty of the ball as a result, but are doing nothing with it.
- OffUnai LópezCD Leganés
- OnSamuel GarcíaCD Leganés
A change was made by the away side, who are surely losing hope that they will be able to mount any kind of fight back.
You'll be pleased to learn that you haven't missed a great deal. Atletico Madrid are now looking to slow down the pace of the game in order to gain control and see this out.
Apologies for the delay in bringing you updates from this game. Again, just like the first half, some technical issues on our end of things. Working through them, though.
That change could be designed to give Carrasco a chance to show that he deserves to be in the starting lineup for the midweek match against Barcelona. There have been questions made of his attitude recently.
- OffNicolás GaitánAtlético Madrid
- OnYannick CarrascoAtlético Madrid
Here comes a change from Atletico Madrid. Gaitan was quiet this evening, he is replaced by Carrasco.
From this position it's difficult to see Atletico Madrid letting their lead slip. Although they haven't been as solid at the back this season as in recent seasons.
Part of the problem for Atletico Madrid this season has been that they are too reliant on goals from Griezmann. Well, Torres has stepped up to fill that void so far this evening.
All of a sudden Torres has found some real form. He took that chance with aplomb, making Herrerin look rather foolish with a clever finish. Clinical in front of goal.
- GoalFernando TorresAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Atletico Madrid 2 (54 mins - Fernando Torres) Leganes 0. Atletico Madrid have doubled their lead and Torres has grabbed his second of the night! He confidently clipped a finish over the goalkeeper after Correa slipped him in.
Koke should have done better with that. He lined up the freekick on the edge of the penalty area, but he scooped his effort well over the bar. The goalkeeper wasn't troubled.
Another way to explain the change at the break would be that Gabi is out of the Copa del Rey second leg at Camp Nou on Tuesday, and so Simeone might be keeping Saul for that one.
Early on in this half it looks like Correa is playing as the number 10, with Griezmann pushed up front alongside Torres. They certainly look to be more attacking.
Torres started the first half very well, but the veteran striker faded towards the break. Of course, he hasn't been used to starting many games so far this season.
Atletico Madrid were certainly the better of the two teams in the first half, but Simeone will want his side to take a grip of things in the centre of the pitch in this second half.
- OffSaúl ÑíguezAtlético Madrid
- OnÁngel CorreaAtlético Madrid
Simeone made a change at the break. Off came Saul and on went Correa in his place. That's an attacking alteration for Atletico Madrid.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way at the Vicente Calderon! Atletico Madrid have a 1-0 lead over Leganes.
What did you make of the first half at the Vicente Calderon? Can Leganes still claim something from this match? Is Torres doing enough for Atletico Madrid? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Leganes. Torres' goal is the difference between the two teams at the break, but Leganes are still in this match. They have shown that.
Griezmann is still playing in something of a floating role behind the central striker. I'm not sure that is benefitting Atletico Madrid. He's coming very deep to pick up the ball.
Atletico Madrid haven't really pushed on since taking an early lead. Leganes have come back into the contest. Simeone will want his side to take control of things after the break.
NEAR POST SHOT! Leganes are making a game of this at the Vicente Calderon, with Diaz driving forward and getting a shot away. But his effort only finds the side netting!
Of course, Atletico Madrid aren't really concerned with matters at the top of La Liga though. They are simply concerned with trying to secure their place in the top four.
Barcelona played earlier this afternoon and claimed a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid were due to play tomorrow, but their match is now in doubt. It could be postponed due to storm damage.
Leganes have composed themselves after going a goal down. It could have been easy for them to panic and fold, but they have remained resilient and have settled down.
This hasn't been the best performance from Savic so far. The former Manchester City and Fiorentina deender has looked rather vulnerable. Leganes are getting at him.
- Yellow cardStefan SavicAtlético Madrid
And there's the second booking of the match and Savic is on the end of it. What was he doing?
- Yellow cardErik MóranCD Leganés
There's the first booking of the match and it goes to Moran.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter to let me know your thoughts throughout the match. Is there any way back for Leganes after losing that goal? Tweet me!
Interesting that Gameiro has been forced out of the Atletico Madrid starting lineup for Torres. The Frenchman has settled in quite well, but Simeone seemingly hasn't seen enough.
Apologies for any breaks in bringing you updates from this match at the Vicente Calderon. Having some technical problems on our end of things, but we're working through them.
Surely the most concerning thing for Simeone about Atletico Madrid's defending this season has been that they now look vulnerable from set pieces. That never happened in years gone by!
Despite that statistic, Leganes will take encouragement from previous Atletico Madrid performances this season that they can still get something out of this match. They can be vulnerable.
There have been questions asked of Atletico Madrid's defence at times this season, but they have kept three clean sheets in their last three La Liga matches at the Vicente Calderon.
Torres gets in behind the Leganes defence to take down a long ball clipped over the top, but he manages to run it out of play under pressure from an opposition defender.
You would think that someone like Gabi or Saul would do a better job of taking penalties for Atletico Madrid. Griezmann is an exceptional player, but he shouldn't be trusted from the spot.
Here's an interesting little statistic for you - Griezmann has missed five of his last seven penalty kicks. Maybe it's time that Simeone took the French striker off penalty duties, no?
Juanfran has been restored to his usual right back position this evening. He has been playing on the right wing, with Vrsaljko playing behind him, in recent matches.
That in itself just illustrates how much faith Simeone still has in Torres. He might have struggled this season, but the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker can still deliver.
Griezmann has been handed a role as a number 10 by Simeone for this game. Usually he places as the focal point of the Atletico Madrid attack. That role has been handed to Torres tonight.
Torres won the penalty and scored the goal, despite Griezmann taking the spot kick. the veteran striker has probably been the best player on the pitch in these opening 15 minutes.
- GoalFernando TorresAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Atletico Madrid 1 (14 mins - Fernando Torres) Leganes 0. Griezmann sees his penalty kick saved by Herrerin, but Torres is quickest to the rebound and finishes from close range to put Atletico Madrid ahead.
PENALTY KICK TO ATLETICO MADRID! Torres is brought down in the penalty area by Sivos and the referee points to the spot.
Of course, the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker is out of contract at the Vicente Calderon at the end of the season. He will likely head off to China in the summer.
Torres made a big difference coming off the bench on Wednesday night, and so that explains why he is in the starting lineup for Atletico Madrid this evening.
However, there was plenty fight in the way Atletico Madrid rallied in the second half of their defeat to Barcelona during the week to suggest they aren't a spent force just yet.
Simeone faced a lot of questions this season and there is a growing sense that he might be coming towards the end of his time at the club. It's just beginning to get that feeling.
Atletico Madrid haven't been in the best of form recently. They lost during the week to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and were held by Alaves in La Liga last weekend.
GREAT CHANCE FOR TORRES! Within the first minute the Atletico Madrid striker is put through on goal, but he sends his effort wide of the target. The angle was getting narrower.
The match is under way at the Vicente Calderon! It's Atletico Madrid against Leganes.
