19:52

So thanks all for your company - enjoy the remainder of the weekend.

19:52

Ireland will be very pleased with that, and rightly so. They took the game to Uruguay, scored three nice goals, and will proceed to play Austria next weekend in good heart and touch.

19:51

Full-time: Ireland 3-1 Uruguay

90+2'

So it turns out that Uruguay struggle without Suarez and Cavani. Email me for me things we've learnt.

90'

There'll be two additional minutes.

90'

Caceres finds space down the right and looks to cross, planting the ball onto the roof of the net before making like he'd spotted the keeper off his line.

89'

Harry Arter is given man of the match inside the ground. That's fair, I'd say, but Ireland have beeh good all over. Hendrick and Christie have also done especailly well.

87'

Christie intercepts a stray pass and charges forward, but Coates heads his cross clear.

86'

Silva comes inside onto his right foot and curls a shot well over the bar.

85'

Uruguay look like they've had enough; Ireland are still snapping into tackles.

83'

There is not very much happening now. The home fans are doing the Iceland clap, which tells you all you need to know.

81'

Mobbed, I tell you.

79'

Uruguay are doing their best to step it up, but this has been a really good effort from Ireland, who look solid.

77'

GOAL! Ireland 3-1 Uruguay (McClean) This is very well-worked and taken. Hoolahan intercepts a square-ball just outside his own box, moves the ball left, and Murphysnaps a long, low, straight pass into the path of McClean. He burts through Gimenez's slide, into the box, and creams a finish into the bootm corner.

75'

Murphy chases down Caceres and bundles through his clearance, chugging into the box on its right. He shots across goal, but can't get the power to trouble Conde, who fields easily.

74'

Off goes Hendrick, on comes McLean.

68'

Great save Westwood! Urretaviscaya curls in a free-kick to the far post, Gimenez is up again, and this time he heads towards the far corner. But also this time, the keeper has stayed at home, and he dives full-length to push clear.

68'

Hendrik slides in on Urretaviscaya and hurts hissel in the process; there's a break while he receives treatment.

66'

Kaxalt chips over the top and Stuani heads onto Vecino, who heads back into the middle, back to him and back. He finishes easily, but the flag was up.

66'
64'

Back to McGeady and associated tangents, Ryan Gauld is struggling in Portgual, but Oliver Burke is doing very wll indeed. One oout of three isn't a bad ratio, if he carries on improving.

63'

Murphy climbs high above Gimenez, who is somehow penalised; he is less than gruntled, it's fair to say, but Brady curls the free-kick behind.

63'

Change for Uruguay: Pereira goes off, Federico comes on.

62'

I wonder, is McGeady's relative lack of development simply because he isn't that good; is it on him; or has he been badly coached?

61'

Ok, off go Duffy, Hayes and Walters; on come Pearce, McGeady and Murphy.

60'

More changes a-comin'.

59'

A scrappy, nondescript phase.

58'
57'

Rios hits a long, er, diag, into the box looking for Urretaviscaya. He chests but can't bring it down and Duffy clears.

54'

Westwood and Hoolahan both came on for Ireland at half-time, but unfortunately my Dutch wasn't good enough to detect such from the commentary. I've no idea who went off because no one has bothered to inform anyone.

53'

Christie has had a really good game so far; that goal was well-earned.

51'

GOAL! Ireland 2-1 Uruguay (Christie) Ireland win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly send it right to Christie. He ecuts ito the box, chucks in a Phil Nev stepover, and with Caceres befuddled, passes a low curler into the far corner; the key was how early he hit it, before keeper and defender were set.

50'

Lovely from Hendrick, turning his man 30 yards from goal and spreading wide for Brady. His ceoss doesn't find its target, but...

48'

Uruguay knock it about inside the Ireland half, but without getting much done. Ireland actually played pretty well in the first half, looking to exert pressure whenever they could - they just lack a bit of class.

48'

And la pièce de résistance:

47'

46'

Off we go again...

Jonathan Walters of Republic of Ireland celebrates scoring the opening goal during the International Friendly match between Republic of Ireland and Uruguay
18:49

Well that wasn't as dreadful as feared. One brilliant goal, one lovely goal-costing error, and as good a miss as you'll ever see. More, please!

18:49

Half-time: Ireland 1-1 Uruguay

45+2'

Ireland win a free-kick right of centre, 40 yards out, and Brady curls in a pearler that misses everyone, that's missed by everyone, and that's that.

45'

There shall be two added minutes.

44'

WHAT A MISS! OH YES! Christie's long cross to the back post sees Brady sprinting after the airmorne ball, he does brilliantly at the far post to direct the ball across the face of goal before it flies behind. Walters could finish this with a gentle whistle, but it comes at him fast, he connects firmly but ineptly with his right when he ought to use his left, and cannons the bar from about three yards! Ironically, I think he's hit that one too well, Clive.

42'

Stuani runs across Arter, bumping his knee; there's a pause while he receives treatment.

42'

Or...

If ever a photo said do not mess.

42'
40'

Uruguay look a far better side than Ireland now, probably because they are.

37'

GOAL! Ireland 1-1 Uruguay (Gimenez) Uruguay win another free-kick, this time of centre, 40 yards out, and Sanchez bends it in. Randolph comes a long way for it - if he doesn't, no one's scoring - misses, and Gimenez loops a header over the men between him and goln and into the net!

37'

Uruguay are pushing now...

34'

In comes the kick, Caceres is up early and high, and he thumps a header against the bar!

34'

Uruguay win another free-kick down the right which Urretaviscaya curls in - it's headed behind for a corner...

33'

You can hear the shouts of the players on the pitch - it's one of those nights.

32'

Or, put another way...

32'
30'

Urugauy win a free-kick deep inside the Ireland half down the right, which Snachez curls in ... Ward is up to head clear.

28'

WHAT A GOAL! Ireland 1-0 Uruguay (Walters) The maestro strikes! Whelan pokes the ball to him just outside the box, just right of centre, and back to goal, his silky first touch finds Urretaviscaya. But he can only prod back to yerman, who turns and strokes a lofted drive into the side-netting at the far post! Brilliant!

27'

Gimenez wins a towering header to clear a long hump. He looks a proper centre-half, and Jose Mourinho wouldn't mind him, apparently.

25'

In case you're wondering what on earth the point of this game is, Ireland have a World Cup qualifier against Austria next weekend; Uruguay have a midweek friendly against Italy, because, well, because.

24'

The Uruguay bench looks as magnificently terse as you'd expect.

20'

Great stuff from Cyrus Christie as he bombs down the wing and draws a foul. He's having a decent game.

16'

Not much in the way of chances created for Uruguay today, and they've lost their attacking talisman with Cavani succumbing to that early injury.

Republic of Ireland team line up before the match
14'

Oof. Close for Ireland there. Duffy almost gets on the end of a wicked cross into the box. Impressive stuff from O'Neill's men here.

12'

Yep, what a shame. Cavani is forced off with an injury. Didn't look particularly bad but no point taking a risk in a match like this.

10'

Cavani seems to have an injury here....

7'

Former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates has to head behind under pressure from Jeff Hendrick at the back post, but Brady's corner comes to little.

6'

Now some pressure for Uruguay but Duffy gets Ireland out of a bit of a tight spot. It's been a pretty confident start from Martin O'Neill's side so far.

4'

Now it's Shane Duffy looking to hit Walters long and early. There's not much subtlety to Ireland's approach so far.

3'

Stephen Ward tries to bypass the Uruguay defence and midfield by pinging a long pass forward from left-back for Ireland, but it's got too much on it for lone striker Jon Walters.

2'

Robbie Brady already looks keen to impress as the Burnley midfielder charges down a defender, lingering too long on the ball.

1'

KICK OFF!

17:55

There's no Luis Suarez for Uruguay but they are lead in attack by prolific PSG star Edinson Cavani.
