Striker Papiss Cisse is out Newcastle's Europa League clash with Maritimo on Thursday night.

The Senegal international has been withdrawn from the squad because of illness and his place has been taken by 17-year-old Adam Campbell.

Cisse's strike-partner Demba Ba was also missing from the party which flew out from Tyneside, a day after his agent, Alex Gontran, suggested he does not understand his current role at the club.

On Tuesday, the day after Ba came off the bench to score twice in the 2-2 draw at Everton, Gontran told BBC Sport : "Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Demba doesn't understand the management.

"If he continues to be a substitute all season, we'll look at other solutions."

Midfielder Sammy Ameobi was on the plane after confirming his return to fitness by playing in the Under-21s' 2-2 midweek derby draw with Sunderland.
