The last time Young Boys were in Europe (2010/11 Europa League), they won their four home games and lost their four on the road. But Liverpool have never failed to score against a Swiss side in Europe.
Although Liverpool are unbeaten in five European outings, they are without a win in their last eight European games on the road (exc. Qualifiers, D4 L4), their longest-ever such run.
Liverpool's record in eight games against Swiss sides reads W5 D2 L1 (W2 D1 L1 in Switzerland – W3 D1 L0 at home) and they are now unbeaten in seven games against Swiss clubs.
BSC Young Boys will look to become the first Swiss side to beat Liverpool FC in over 40 years since losing to Servette FC in 1971 and it is the first encounter between the two clubs.
A 2-0 defeat against FC Midtjylland in their play-off decider brought an end to Young Boys' ten-game unbeaten home run in UEFA club competition, which comprised eight wins and two draws.
Form guide: Liverpool remain unbeaten in their last five European games, including all four under their new boss Brendan Rodgers. Both their away fixtures in UEFA Europa League qualifying ended in 1-0 wins.
Brendan Rodgers: "They are players, from what I have seen in the early part of the season, who can come in and contribute. I know they have got talent. The balance has to be right: the young players here that are exciting and the experienced players that are playing a brilliant role for me here at the football club."
It appears a risky strategy from Liverpool resting their big guns in preparation for Sunday’s clash against Manchester Unoted with Young Boys coach Martin Rueda issuing a warning to Brendan Rodgers’ side. "I don't think Liverpool can afford to turn up without their best players. We can embarrass them," said Rueda.
