BIOGRAPHY from Yaroslav Popovych

"Popo" headed into the 2006 Tour de France as part of a disparate group of Discos all looking to claim the mantle of the departed Lance Armstrong as Tour champion. Like team-mates George Hincapie, Paolo Savoldelli and Jose Azevedo the 2005 white jersey crashed and burned at Le Grand Boucle due to the absence of a true team leader. The young Ukrainian did recover some team pride, however, when he broke out of a strong four-man lead group to claim Stage 12 in Carcassonne and ultimately finish 25th overall, second of the Discos behind Azevedo. In 2007 the 27-year-old can get back to the support role in which he performed so stunningly in 2005 and demonstrate that he is still the future of the American team.
