Bjoergen ends season with win
Marit Bjoergen wrapped up her World Cup Cross-Country Skiing title winning season in emphatic fashion with 10km Pursuit victory in Sweden.
After making sure of the championship in the previous race the pressure was off the Norwegian – and it showed as she cruised home in 29:21.6 in the last event of the season.
Bjoergen secured her third Crystal Globe after holding off the strong challenge of Justyna Kowalczyk who has dominated the event in the last three years.
But the Pole was not herself after conceding the title yesterday and fell from her start position in second to sixth.
Heidi Weng took the second spot to make it a Norwegian one-two but came in 46.1 off her countrywoman and Charlotte Kalla came in third.
Meanwhile, already crowned 2012 FIS Cross Country World Cup champion Dario Cologna also rounded off an awesome season in style after taking 15km Pursuit glory in Falun.
Already 700 points clear of nearest rival Devon Kershaw before the race, the Swiss superstar finished in 39:59.9 – a comfortable 23.8 seconds clear of Kershaw who came second.
Niklas Dyrhaug nipped in third but all eyes were on Cologna who took his third Crystal Globe after victories in 2009 and 2011.
