Azhar Ali's day four century gave Pakistan a glimmer of hope of a series-levelling victory in the third Test against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

Ali struck 136, and was supported by half-centuries from Mohammed Hafeez (52) and Asad Shafiq (55 not out) as Pakistan reached 299 for eight at stumps on day four, with a lead of 188 runs.

Herath was the star of the bowling attack for the hosts, with the left-arm spinner finishing with figures of four for 64 from 32 overs.
