Mundine impresses against McKart
Australia's Anthony Mundine secured a technical knockout victory over Bronco McKart in the seventh round at the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas.
Mundine was in control of his first fight in the US from the outset, knocking McKart to the canvas three times in the seventh round before the American’s corner accepted defeat.
Mundine was quicker and more powerful than McKart from the first bell but really took control of the bout when he landed a body blow in the fifth that left the American on the ropes.
But it was in the sixth that Mundine really did the damage, controlling the pace of the fight, before three uppercuts in quick succession in the seventh saw McKart hit the deck on each occasion.
The American’s corner threw in the towel shortly after McKart’s third fall to the canvas leaving Mundine chasing a fight with unbeaten pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather Sr appeared to quash the 37-year-old Mundine’s hopes before the bout with McKart saying his chances of facing his son “are probably slim to none”.
But the Australian will be hoping his impressive display on his US debut helps to change the minds of the Mayweather camp.
